The announced OLED panel update for the Dell XPS 15 has already been delayed since March, and it now looks like those hoping for this display type on this particular performance laptop will have to wait even longer before making a purchase. Apple has reported its Q2 results for 2019 which showed that its iPhone sales have continued the downward trend first recorded in Q1. However, Apple stock was up seemingly in response to its services business which crested US$11 billion for the first time along with news of a further US$75 billion in share buybacks.

An alleged Dell roadmap showing XPS laptops in shipping, development, and concept stages has been acquired by the Dutch technology website Tweakers. The roadmap is dated from February 2018 and includes concept ideas for computers such as the XPS 15 7500 “Fiorano”, the XPS 17 7700 “Stradale”, and a dual-screen machine with the codename “Maximus”.

240 Hz screen for Alienware Area-51m not coming until next year but there are plenty of other options

It’s been reported that Dell’s powerful Alienware Area-51m gaming laptops will not be receiving panel upgrades to 240 Hz in 2019. More and more OEMs are turning to this particular refresh rate as a major selling point for updated notebooks, but it seems the Alienware Area-51m will be stuck at a maximum of 144 Hz for the time being.

Intel reports first-quarter earnings for 2019

Intel has made its earnings report for the first quarter of this financial year (Q1FY2019) available to the public. In it, overall revenue is described as "flat" compared to Q1FY2018. Its "data" business has declined by 5% in the same terms, although its "PC-centric" revenues are up 4%.

The 4K display standard is likely to be immediately succeeded by its 8K counterpart in the fullness of time. ResearchandMarkets has estimated that, even though this next-gen solution only pulled in about US$2 billion worldwide in 2017, this will increase to just over $68 billion in 2026.

Windows to increase minimum storage requirements for 1903 update

The May 2019 update is set to be the next major upgrade to Windows 10. However, those with older machines may have particular trouble with getting it to work after installing it. This is because Microsoft has raised the minimum recommended hard-drive storage to support doing so to 32GB.

What was once just one Core i9 option (i9-8950HK) will now be split into two (i9-9880H and i9-9980HK) for this latest mobile Core ix generation. Based on the performance history of the i9-8950HK, however, we're not expecting the i9-9980HK to perform that much faster than the i9-9880H to warrant two different SKUs.
