The Swift series is Acer's Ultrabook solution aimed at users considering a Dell XPS, HP Spectre, or Asus ZenBook. Unlike these flagship alternatives, however, an Acer Swift laptop is typically more affordable through its use of plastics in lieu of aluminum, magnesium, or carbon fiber materials. Users who don't mind a more ordinary-looking laptop should find the Swift 3 to be ideal for the budget.
The latest 15.6-inch model is currently on sale at Newegg for $550 USD with a the Kaby Lake-R Core i7-8550U CPU, 256 GB SATA III SSD, fingerprint reader, and a 1080p display. The deal is notable because it is Acer's latest chassis design with narrow bezels to make it one of the more portable 15.6-inch laptops available in its price range. While we're no strangers to the Acer Swift laptops, we've yet to review this latest model ourselves and you'd be hard pressed to find a narrow bezel 15.6-inch laptop for around the same price and specifications as this Acer at the moment.
It's worth mentioning that the laptop is using a last generation Core i7-8550U instead of the current Core i7-8565U. Based on our experience with these two processors, however, the marginal performance difference between them is essentially negligible for day-to-day workloads like browsing, emailing, and video streaming for which the Swift 3 was designed for.
Of course, users who want a more luxurious offering can always consider the higher-end Acer Swift 7 series retailing for about 2x to 3x more.
Notebookcheck receives no commissions from this Acer Swift 3 sale. Instead, we are sharing the deal because we believe it to be a good price for users in the market for an affordable narrow-bezel Ultrabook.
