Samsung's high-end phablet called Galaxy Note 5 is expected for autumn 2015. We summarize all the relevant rumors about the Galaxy Note 5 and give a perspective on the upcoming flagship phablet from Samsung.

Specs & Features

  • The alleged box of the Galaxy Note 5 (se below) reveals the following specs: 5.7-inch Super-AMOLED QHD display, Exynos 7420 processor, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, 16 MP main camera with OIS, 5 MP webcam, 4,100 mAh battery, Android 5.1.1
  • QHD Super-AMOLED display: The display is supposed to use the contrast-rich Super-AMOLED technology again. According to current rumors the resolution is probably QHD (2560x1440 pixels) once again. Reportedly the display size might be 5.67-inch.
  • QHD Super-AMOLED display: The display is supposed to use the contrast-rich Super-AMOLED technology again. According to current rumors the resolution is probably QHD (2560x1440 pixels) once again. Reportedly the display size might be 5.67-inch.
  • Exynos 7422 processor: Reportedly, the Galaxy Note 5 might use an Exynos 7422 from Samsung as SoC. The in-house chip is supposed to be an improved version of the Exynos 7420 known from the Galaxy S6. The SoC (System on a Chip) consists of an octa core processor with 64-bit architecture, GPU, RAM, internal memory, and the Shannon 333 LTE-Modem - all on a single chip.
  • Exynos 7420 processor: According to a database entry of the benchmark Gegebnen, the Galaxy Note 5 is equipped with the Exynos 7420, which already powers the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Maybe there won't be a new chip after all. Or there will be two models of the Note 5.
  • 69,702 points in AnTuTu: The Note 5 managed 69,702 points in the AnTuTu benchmark. The Galaxy S6 managed 67,520 points.
  • 4 GB LPDDR4-RAM: The magazine SamMobile reports that the Note 5 is supposed to feature 4 GB of the new RAM memory according to "reliable" insiders. They were often right in the past. The newer Geekbench entry (07/26/2015) actually confirms the 4 GB RAM.
  • USB Type-C: According to South Korean media, the Galaxy Note 5 might be the first mobile device from Samsung with the new standard USB Type-C. USB 3.1 Type-C makes transfer rates of up to 10 GBit/s possible.
  • Up to 128 GB memory: Alike with the Galaxy S6, models with different storage capacities might be available. The premium model is supposed to have a capacity of 128 GB. In addition, it might be possible to expand the storage capacity by up to 256 GB with a microSD card.
  • 4100 mAh battery: The battery capacity might be 4100 mAh. The Galaxy Note 4 had to make do with 3220 mAh.
  • Android 5.1.1: According to the entry in the Gegebnen database, the Galaxy Note 5 uses the latest Android version 5.1.1.
  • Accessories: According to the magazine SamMobile, Samsung might also release the S View Case and the Clear View Case known from the Galaxy Note 4 for the Galaxy Note 5. In addition, they might offer a keyboard cover, which is a feature rather known from tablets.
  • Foldable display: According to a patent application from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5 or a similar device might have a foldable display. In 2013, the CEO Oh-Hyun announced that Samsung might release the first devices with foldable displays in 2015.
  • Black, gold, silver, white: These are supposed to be the colors, in which the Note 5 will be available.
  • Glass back panel: A back panel from glass is supposed to refine the Note 5. However this might bring problems like a smooth, slippery surface and sensitivity to scratches. Let's see.
  • Wireless charging. Qi Wireless might also be used in the Galaxy Note serie.

Release & Price

  • August 13th 2015: Samsung officially announced its "Galaxy Unpacked Event" in New York for August 13th. It is very likely that the Galaxy Note 5 as well as the Galaxy S6 Edge will be presented there. It is rumored that the Note 5 will be launched on August 22nd.
  • September 2015: Alike the predecessors, Samsung might very likely officially introduce the Galaxy Note 5 at the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung - "Berlin Radio Show"). The exhibition will take place from the 4th to the 9th of September in Berlin.
