Hopes have truly been dashed now: There will be NO update to Android 10 and One UI 2.0 for owners of either the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. There had been some rumors that a software upgrade could have been coming for the devices, but SamMobile has been in contact with the South Korean manufacturer and has received the unambiguous confirmation that the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 have had their lot.
Although there will be many disappointed Galaxy S8 and Note 8 users, the fact is that both devices came with Android 7 (“Nougat”) and got their two expected major software updates, through Android 8 (“Oreo”) and up to Android 9 (“Pie”). Samsung is under no obligation to offer Android 10 or its own One UI 2.0 overlay for the Galaxy S8 or Note 8, even if it was supposedly some of the company’s own customer service representatives that offered false hope.
Apparently there will be security patches still offered for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8, but inevitably these will end at some point, too. However, there will be many users feeling dissatisfied with Samsung’s policy of offering just two system updates, and they will likely complain about purchasing a flagship smartphone that no longer operates on the most current Android OS.
