The Samsung Galaxy S20 phones are set to offer groundbreaking camera performance, and a new set of leaks has given us our clearest look yet at the camera hardware and software features of the devices, backed by hands-on images and videos.

Samsung is putting all it has into the Galaxy S20 phones' cameras, perhaps in an attempt to soundly snatch top place from Apple's latest efforts. We already know quite a bit about the camera hardware the phones will feature, but a new leak has given us our most detailed look yet.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra, the biggest and most expensive of the lot, will sport camera hardware that's different from the other two phones, the S20 and S20+. The S20 Ultra will feature a 108 MP main sensor, a 48 MP telephoto shooter, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, and a ToF sensor.

The S20 and S20+ will utilize the 12 MP Sony IMX555 (1.8μm, 1/1.76") as their main cameras. That will be joined by the 64 MP ISOCELL S5KGW2 as the telephoto sensor, and the 12 MP ISOCELL S5K2LA as the ultra-wide-angle shooter. The S20+ will have a ToF sensor, but the S20 will likely not.

Interestingly, the S20 Ultra opts for a lower-res telephoto sensor than the S20+ and S20—48 MP versus 64 MP. The S20 Ultra is touted to offer 10x optical zoom, which would be groundbreaking on a smartphone. It will likely achieve that by a combination of its 108 MP sensor and the periscope setup on the 48 MP shooter.

This is the first time 10x optical zoom has been mentioned for the phone, however, and we wouldn't be surprised if it only ends up with 5x zoom. The S20 and S20+, however, will offer 3x optical zoom.

The front camera on all three devices will be the 10 MP Sony IMX374 that was on the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 phones.

Some camera features of the phones include the following:

  • 8K30FPS video recording.
  • 4K60FPS selfie camera video recording
  • 4K60FPS video recording (OIS/EIS, but no HDR)
  • Audio zoom
  • Smart selfie angle (Switches to a wider FoV on the selfie camera if multiple subjects are detected)
  • Single take photo
  • Pro Video mode

We're interested in the 8K video recording that will be found on the Galaxy S20 and S20+. 8K translates into 33MP resolution, and the S20 and S20+ only have 12 MP main sensors.
