The Surface Book 2 and Surface Book 2 15 may be innovative devices, but they have suffered from two critical problems in recent months. Microsoft now claims to have fixed the NVIDIA dGPU disconnects and BD PROCHOT-related throttling issues that have affected some machines since at least the summer. The fixes should prompt the re-release of Windows 10 version 1903 for the Surface Book 2 series too.

Asus' budget-midrange Strix G series laptop is $300 off for high performance-per-dollar. Its GTX 1650 GPU is comparable to the GTX 1060 in DX11 titles and up to 15 percent faster if on DX12.

AMD announced two new GPUs today. The Radeon RX 5500 and its mobile equivalent, the Radeon RX 5500M, will make their debuts in various machines before the end of the year. The RX 5500M, in particular, will appear in the MSI Alpha 15, which we should get in our lab later this month. The RX 5500M should offer performance somewhere between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q and the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which would make it suitable for gaming at FHD/High settings.

Nvidia’s successor to the Turing architecture powering its current line of Turing based RTX 20 series GPUs isn’t far away. According to the latest rumors, the graphics powerhouse will be releasing its new chips based on Samsung’s 7nm EUV process in the first half of 2020.

The MSI GL75 offers everything one would expect from a mid-range gaming laptop in 2019. Its high-refresh-rate display and excellent gaming performance are, unfortunately, marred by some annoying flaws. Loud fan noise spoils an otherwise adequate package.

NVIDIA looks set to have a busy end of the month, at least if latest rumors are to be believed. Chinese insiders claim that the company will release the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER in the final week of October, a week after it is expected to unleash the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti. The GTX 1660 SUPER will sit between the GTX 1660 and GTX 1660 Ti, with NVIDIA likely pitching it against AMD's upcoming Navi 12 and Navi 14 GPUs.

It's becoming more difficult to justify carrying around a laptop with GeForce RTX 2080 graphics when you can simply harness that power from the cloud or an external GPU docking station. Alternatives like eGPUs and game streaming services will make conventional gaming laptops a hard sell in the near future.

After months of limited availability, Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 is finally available with all the announced hardware options. This includes more affordable configurations with i5 CPUs as well as high-end ones with Intel Core i9 processors and OLED screens.

Nvidia is boosting the value of its GeForce RTX series with new features designed specifically for online social gamers. By utilizing the Tensor cores of its RTX GPUs, a normal webcam will be able to detect, track, map, isolate, filter, and augment faces in real-time for streaming or video chatting.

Gears of Wars 5 running in 8K is too much even for the most expensive gaming GPUs out there. While 4K @60 fps is starting to look "doable" these days, running Gears 5 in 8K at 30 fps is already an impossible task for GPUs like the Titan RTX. 8K displays are not exactly mainstream either, so we might see GPUs properly handling the monstrous resolutions in 2-3 years.

On the bottom end of the spectrum is the Gigabyte Aero 15-Y9 which offers approximately 20 to 30 percent slower performance than the Razer despite carrying the same GPU by name. Power consumption, however, is also highest on the Razer system.

The upcoming GTX 1650 Ti is supposed to give AMD's Radeon RX 5600 a run for the money, replacing the older GTX 1050 Ti. Chinese insiders claim that the GTX 1650 Ti is scheduled for a late-October release, with an MSRP close to US$155, which would most likely translate to a US$185 pricing in the West.

Don't buy a laptop with GeForce RTX 2060 graphics if you want to maximize performance-per-dollar. The cheaper mobile GTX 1660 Ti is only about 5 percent slower than the mobile RTX 2060 while retailing for hundreds less. The mobile RTX 2060 can be up to 25 percent slower than the desktop RTX 2060 compared to "only" 10 to 15 percent between the mobile RTX 2070 and desktop RTX 2070.

NVIDIA may even take a leaf out of AMD's puerile 'jebaiting' strategies, not only flooding the market with more midrange GPUs, but also undercutting existing prices too.

A demonstration video created by Luminous Productions has shown the incredible level of graphics quality that could be wielded by next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett. Although the Back Stage clip was designed with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, the ray-tracing capability on show is something AMD should be providing for the upcoming gaming devices.

The price of entry for Razer laptops has always been on the high side. The new entry-level GTX 1660 Ti SKU should make it a little easier for users to pull the trigger by dropping the minimum price of a 2019 Blade 15 from $2000 to $1600 USD.

The Schenker XMG Fusion 15 features a Core i7-9750H processor, either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU and up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. Lenovo has unveiled new Yoga C- and S-series models. As expected, they conform to Project Athena and feature premium materials and features in many variants. Some also offer up to 10th-gen Intel Core processors and AI features intended to boost performance and cooling under certain circumstances

Acer's new series of XV3 gaming monitors offer modern refresh rates of up to 240Hz and response times of as low as 1 millisecond. They are also G-SYNC ready with the variable refresh rate (VRR) necessary to handle either the RTX or GTX 10-series of graphic cards. These new IPS panels come in either 24.5- or 27-inch variants, and will start at €249 (about US$275).

Asus is known for making technological leaps forward in regard to gaming-laptop displays, and now it seems the Taiwanese manufacturer is ready to make another spectacular bound. Asus has revealed that the Zephyrus S GX701 will be the world’s first notebook to offer a display capable of a 300 Hz refresh rate, ideal for esports and gaming professionals. Update: It looks like Acer beat Asus to the punch for this "world's first" claim.

NVIDIA has introduced a new mobile Quadro RTX card, the mobile Quadro RTX 6000 at IFA 2019. The specifications of the mobile Quadro RTX 6000 are yet to be officially disclosed, but NVIDIA's performance numbers show that it performs within 10% of that of its desktop counterpart. NVIDIA is working with partners to create mobile workstation laptops based on its Ace Reference Design and a total of 39 RTX Studio laptops and desktops will be made available.

Lenovo has announced a 13-inch variant of the IdeaPad S540 at IFA 2019. The new IdeaPad S540 comes in both Intel Comet Lake-U and AMD Ryzen Zen+ APU options. Both the variants sport a QHD 16:10 IPS display with the Intel version offering optional Wi-Fi 6 and NVIDIA MX250 graphics. The IdeaPad S540 13-inch starts from €799.00 (incl. VAT) and will be available from October 2019.

At IFA 2019, Lenovo has introduced a 13.3-inch IdeaPad S340 with Intel 10th gen Comet Lake-U and NVIDIA GeForce MX250 GPU options. The new IdeaPad S340 is available in three color options and weighs just 1.3 kg. Sadly though, Lenovo's choice of ports leave a lot to be desired.

The RedmiBook 14 Enhanced is essentially its brand's first ultrabook, but with 1 important difference: 10th-generation Intel Core silicon. Its fans in China can sign up to buy their unit on mi.com at present. Redmi has announced that the volume of these reservations have now exceeded 1.5 million in number.
