Cooling system of the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 is overtaxed with AMD Radeon RX 640

The Lenovo ThinkPad E15 does not only get extremely hot in our review, it also suffers from throttling. An overall problematic situation that makes us question the purpose of the AMD GPU in here.

Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Laptop Review: Too much performance with too little cooling

82% Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Laptop Review: Too much performance with too little cooling

Hot stuff. With the ThinkPad E series, Lenovo targets both the normal office market as well as people who occasionally like to play games – at least when the ThinkPad laptop is configured with an AMD GPU. Bringing these two things together proves more difficult than Lenovo might have thought, however, as the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 struggles with its cooling system.

It's official, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU, not a GTX 1650 as advertised

Lenovo may continue to advertise the ThinkPad X1 Gen 2 with a GeForce GTX 1650 GPU in many regions, but that is simply not the case. While the device's GPU has always performed like a GTX 1650 Max-Q, an NVIDIA driver update confirms that this is the case.

ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2: NVIDIA confirms that Lenovo's multimedia laptop has a GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q, not a regular GTX 1650

While Lenovo remains unsure about which GPU it has included in the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2, NVIDIA has confirmed that it is not the regular GeForce GTX 1650. As expected, Lenovo has included a GTX 1650 Max-Q instead. While NVIDIA is releasing a new driver to address the confusion, it may be months before it arrives on most X1 Extreme Gen 2 machines.

Buying a Lenovo ThinkPad T490? Skip the 2020 model and go with the 2019 model instead

Save yourself a few hundred dollars without sacrificing all that much processor performance. The brand new Intel 10th gen Core i7-10510U isn't all that much faster than the older Core i7-8565U or i7-8665U that Lenovo has been offering since early last year.

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U joins Renoir's ranks and will likely feature in future Lenovo ThinkPad laptops

The AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U processor has shown up in a snippet of information taken from 3DMark. It appears the new PRO APU will fill a niche that is already occupied by chips such as the Ryzen 5 4600U and the higher-powered Ryzen 5 4600H. The Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U will be aimed at enterprise solutions, such as the upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad L14 and L15 laptops.

An AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U APU has been discovered on 3DMark. The reported base clock rate for the processor is 1,700 MHz while the maximum turbo clock rate is listed as 4,201 MHz. Unsurprisingly, these clocks would fit the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U snugly between the Renoir APUs Ryzen 7 4700U and Ryzen 7 4800U. Lenovo will soon be releasing new ThinkPads with Ryzen PRO 4000 chips.

Diet with adverse effects. Lenovo outfits its cheaper ThinkPad E series with a newer, thinner chassis that uses more aluminum. When the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 was announced this week, people were astounded that the Intel version of this ThinkPad laptop was said to feature RJ45 Ethernet and upgradable RAM, while the datasheet of the AMD version featured neither.
