If there has been one defining trait of the Lenovo ThinkPad E series these past years, it definitely were the bad screens. 250 cd/m² brightness and only around 60 % sRGB coverage always signaled that these were affordable devices. Even the latest Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 with AMD Ryzen 4000 still suffered from this issue.
Things may finally change though, as both the new 14 inch ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 and 15.6 inch E15 Gen 2 with Intel Tiger Lake will be offered with a new screen option: Brighter 300 cd/m² FHD displays with 100 % sRGB will be standard for the Lenovo E15 and optional for the E14.
Another first for the affordable ThinkPad world: Thunderbolt. With Intel integrating it into Tiger Lake, both E14 and E15 will offer Thunderbolt 4 as a standard feature. As with the better screens, this feature was formerly exclusive to T, X and P series ThinkPad laptops.
Physically, the new models are almost identical with their AMD counterparts. The 15.6 inch ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 Intel will have one interesting new feature to offer though: A hidden compartment for wireless earbuds, not unlike the new Lenovo ThinkBook 15 Gen 2.
ThinkPad E14 and E15 Gen with Intel Tiger Lake will be available in November 2020. Both have a base-price of $699.
