First PC with a foldable screen: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is pre-orderable now
It is not usual that manufacturers release two press-releases when they announce that a product is now available for pre-order. It does fit though, as Lenovo clearly views the ThinkPad X1 Fold as a special product. And it might be: After all, it is the first PC with a foldable display and at the same time a new entry to Lenovo's prestigious ThinkPad X1 brand.
Originally planned for a summer release, the ThinkPad X1 Fold goes on pre-oder today, with shipment targeted for the end of October. According to Lenovo, the delay from summer to fall has been used to enhance the design of the ThinkPad X1 Fold in a few ways, like a slight change in the screen bezel material or the kickstand design. The pen-loop has also been moved from the tablet to the Bluetooth keyboard.
People interested in buying the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold should probably not wait too long. In the second press release that is exclusively about the ThinkPad X1 Fold, Lenovo vice president Jerry Paradise writes that while the ThinkPad X1 Fold is not a limited edition, Lenovo will not make many units.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold will cost at least $2,499. It features a 13.3 inch foldable 4:3 screen and Intel's Lakefield hybrid CPU architecture.
