Thanks to the new FOWLP production process, the GDDR6W dies have the same size as the GDDR6X ones, but come with 32 Gb capacity instead of 16 Gb and the I/O pin count is also doubled. System-level bandwidth can reach 1.4 TB/s with 512 I/O pins, while HBM2E offers 1.6 TB/s through 4096 pins, making Samsung's new memory standard considerably more efficient.

Although the RTX 4080 brings a big performance bump over the RTX 3080, it costs US$500 more for the Founders Edition SKU. Owing to this price bump, reports have suggested that the card isn’t selling as well as the RTX 4090. The latest story comes from Tom’s Hardware which looked at eBay sales for the RTX 4080 since launch and found out that the board is underselling by a factor of 3.4 vs the RTX 4090.

AMD and Nvidia reportedly lose market share in Q3 2022 as GPU shipments suffer massive 25% year-over-year decline

According to the latest report from Jon Peddie Research, GPU shipments in Q3’22 vs Q2’22 have fallen to an extent not seen since the 2009 economic downturn. The total shipments for graphics boards are also down 25.1% compared to Q3 2021. The same is the case for the CPU segment which have experienced a double-digit year-over-year decrease in Q3’22.

AMD's RX 7900 XTX is 10% slower on average versus RTX 4090 according to extrapolated preliminary graphs

The performance metrics presented by AMD during the official launch appeared a bit cryptic, but Linus and twitter user Lock Gamer extrapolated the AMD estimates with actual RTX 4090 results and it looks like the RX 7900 XTX is only 10% slower than Nvidia's top dog. Not too shabby when we also factor in the 60% lower prices for the AMD card.

AMD spares RDNA 3 graphics cards from melting GeForce RTX 4090 12VHPWR power connectors

There has been good news for those waiting for AMD’s upcoming series of RDNA 3-based graphics cards, widely known as the Radeon RX 7000 range. It has been confirmed by one of Team Red’s executives that RDNA 3 (and Radeon RX 6000) GPUs will not require the use of the 12VHPWR power connector involved in multiple reports of damaged GeForce RTX 4090-based PCs.

Manli has officially unveiled the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 8 GB. It has the same number of CUDA cores, base/boost clocks as the 12 GB version, but reduces the total memory bandwidth to 240 GB/s. The OEM is yet to specify its price.
