Dell launches Precision 5480 and Precision 5680 with Intel Raptor Lake-H vPro and Nvidia RTX Ada workstation graphics

The Dell Precision series is the XPS of the workstation world. Today, Dell is introducing two new Precision workstations — the Precision 5480 and the Precision 5680.  The Precision 5480 succeeds last year's Precision 5470 while the Precision 5680 makes its debut this year.

Dell Precision 5480

The Precision 5480 is a 14-inch workstation with FHD+ and QHD+ 16:10 60 Hz 4-sided InfinityEdge display options with the QHD+ variant offering active pen support. Both display options can reach 500 nits brightness and are rated to cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut.

Dell offers a range of Intel 13th gen Raptor Lake-H vPro choices including the Core i5-13500H, Core i5-13600H, Core i7-13700H, Core i7-13800H, and the Core i9-13900H.

Starting from the Alder Lake generation, Intel started segmenting vPro features depending on required security features. Thus, the Core i5-13500H and the Core i7-13700H are offered with vPro Essentials while the rest of the CPU choices come with vPro Enterprise features.

Like the Precision 5470 before, the Precision 5480 also offers the Nvidia RTX A1000 Ampere GPU with 6 GB GDDR6 RAM. Additionally, buyers can also choose from RTX 2000 Ada and RTX A3000 Ada with 8 GB GDDR6 memory.

The Precision 5480 is ISV-certified for workstation apps and is MIL-STD 810H tested for durability. Port selection continues to omit USB Type-As and relies on four Thunderbolt 4 ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort-out.

Other features include a carbon fiber palmrest, Intel AX211 Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.2 and optional NFC connectivity, Dell Optimizer, and biometric logins via IR camera and fingerprint reader.

The Dell Precision 5480 mobile workstation will be available from April 20. Prices will be disclosed at a later date.

Dell Precision 5680

Dell describes the Precision 5680 as the smallest footprint 16-inch workstation. The Precision 5680 shares a lot of specifications with the Precision 5480, but the larger chassis enables a more powerful GPU, UHD+ panel, and a larger battery.

The Precision 5680 offers Intel 13th gen vPro options from the Core i5-13600H to the Core i9-13900H. The workstation also offers Nvidia RTX 4000 Ada and RTX 5000 Ada workstation GPUs in addition to RTX A1000, RTX 2000 Ada, and RTX 3500 Ada.

Two display options are on offer — a 16-inch FHD+ 500 nits WLED panel with 100% sRGB coverage and a 16-inch UHD+ OLED touch display with 400 nits brightness, and 100% Adobe RGB and 99% DCI-P3 coverage.

Accordingly, the Precision 5680 can be equipped with either a 4-cell 66 WHr or a 6-cell 99.5 WHr battery.

Port selection is limited to just two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB Type-C port with DisplayPort-out. A HDMI 2.0-out is available along with a full-size SD card slot.

The Dell Precision 5680 will be available from May 18. Pricing is yet to be disclosed.
