Dark-horse Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 arrives with convincing specs for a starting price that is equivalent to around US$1,100
The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 has arrived for sale on some of Dell’s sites, including China and Japan. It is likely the laptop will soon start appearing further afield, such as the US, Europe, and the UK, as it has already been listed in the English-language feature availability spreadsheet that Dell publishes. Dell has considerably spruced up the latest variant of the Inspiron 16 Plus laptop with more than just typical CPU and GPU upgrades. There is even a new color for the Inspiron 16 Plus 7630, which has been called “Galactic Star Trail” and “Platinum Silver” but is just basically silver.
The current top-end variant of the new Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 listed on sites such as Dell China and Dell Japan comes with an Intel Core i7-13700H processor. This Raptor Lake-H unit has 14 cores and 20 threads and can reach a clock rate of up to 5.0 GHz. In addition, the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 can be configured with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM, and up to a 1 TB NVMe SSD. However, the new Inspiron 16 Plus for 2023 does not feature a numpad like some of the older models (such as the 7610 model that came in Mist Blue), a fact that some potential buyers may bemoan.
There is a considerable change in the display between the new Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 and the 7620 model. Whereas the latter came with a 3K 3072x1920 resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate, it seems Dell has decided to tone down the resolution while upping the refresh rate for the latest model, so the 7630 sports a 2.5K 2560x1600 display and supports a 120 Hz refresh rate. The presence of quad speakers should also appeal to those who class their gaming habits as casual and above. It’s likely different configurations of the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 laptop will be made available depending on location.
The prices on the China and Japan websites are around the US$2,100 mark for the high-end model: The new Inspiron 16 Plus with i7-13700H and RTX 4060 costs 14,999 yuan (~US$2,186) in China and 269,980 yen (US$2,065) in Japan. However, the entry-level model costs from just 7,499 yuan (~US$1,093) in Dell’s Chinese shop, and this variant of the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 notebook comes with an Intel Core i5-13500H processor, Iris Xe graphics, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Obviously, amounts in the US, UK, and European markets will differ due to regional pricing variations and taxes.
