First in-house Core i7-13700HX benchmarks show a 25 percent performance boost over the popular Core i7-12700H
When laptops with 13th gen Intel Core mobile CPUs first became available, only configurations with Core i9 processors were attainable. Now that several weeks have passed, configurations with the Core i7-13700HX have finally been popping up. This particular CPU is expected to proliferate amongst gaming laptops this year similar to how the 12th gen Core i7-12700H CPU was the most popular option on gaming laptops of yesteryear.
Uniwill was kind enough to send us its 16-inch GM6PX7X gaming laptop equipped with the Core i7-13700HX for testing purposes. As shown by the suite of benchmark results below, users can expect it to run about 30 to 35 percent slower than the i9-13900HX or i9-13980HX on multi-threaded workloads. Even so, it's still a notable improvement over the Core i7-12700H by about 25 percent or any AMD Zen 3+ mobile CPU by wider margins. Users running on the Core i9-12900HX will still have an edge by about 5 percent.
Unfortunately, power consumption scales higher on the 13th gen platform when compared to 12th gen meaning performance-per-watt hasn't significantly improved. Running Prime95 on our Core i7-13700HX-powered Uniwill, for example, would consume about 183 W compared to 120 W on the Core i7-12700H-powered MSI Pulse GL76. It's not a coincidence that the latest gaming laptops are shipping with even larger AC adapters since mobile processors are becoming more demanding.
