Six-screen a-X2P portable workstation packs 192-core AMD EPYC Genoa dual processor and 3 TB DDR5 RAM
MediaWorkstations was among the first companies to introduce server-grade portable system designs with extensible screens a few years ago. Its top-of-the-line AMD-powered a-X2P model is now getting upgraded with even more powerful processors and RAM. Due to the improved hardware, the systems are slightly bulkier at 16.35 x 24.6 x 10.6 inches and heavier with a maximum weight of 55 lbs.
The original model came equipped with a dual AMD Zen 2 EPYC 7002 (Rome) configuration, and this is now refreshed with the latest EPYC 9004 (Genoa) processors for a total of 192 cores and double the threads. MediaWorkstations offers to equip the system with up to 3 TB of DDR5-4800 RAM, but the system motherboard supports up to 6 TB.
For the display array, the a-X2P can be configured to integrate up to six 24-inch screens with HD or UHD resolution and professional pre-calibration ideal for movie production and live broadcast.
PCIe 5.0 is unfortunately not supported. Instead the motherboard supports 4x PCIe 4.0 X16 slots directly connected to each CPU and configurations with up to two GPUs are available. There is also one M.2 2280 / 22110 slot for an NVMe SSD, plus 2x SlimSAS 8i with 4x PCIe 4.0 NVMe or 16 x SATA III ports connected to the second CPU.
Motherboard port selection includes 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectors, 1x VGA, 1x COM, 1x 1 GbE MLAN and 2x 10 GbE jacks. A TPM header or optional TPM 2.0 kit are also available. Additionally, an Aspeed AST2600 management controller is provided with a dual-core Arm Cortex A7 and embedded Arm Cortex M3 2D video graphics adapter that supports 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz signals.
Prices are only disclosed upon inquiry. Factoring in the costs for the processors, RAM and two professional GPUs, a fully equipped a-X2P system may very well be priced at over US$50,000.
