HP is expanding its Omen gaming laptop lineup with a new Transcend 16 model that features a thinner and lighter chassis. This is also the company’s first Omen laptop to come with a mini-LED screen option.
CPU options for the Omen Transcend 16 include the Intel i9-13900HX model with 24 cores and 32 threads clocked at 5.4 GHz max, as well as an unspecified i7 model that will be introduced at a later date. Maximum RAM capacity is set to 32 GB DDR5-5600 and the storage solution includes a single M.2 slot that supports up to a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. Due to the thinner chassis, the Transcend 16 can only fit up to an RTX 4070 mobile GPU with 130 W TGP. For the budget-oriented users, HP offers RTX 4060 and 4050 options.
The 16-inch mini-LED display option comes with 2560 x 1600 resolution, 1180 nit maximum brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 240 Hz refresh rate. There is also an IPS panel with 1600p and 240 Hz, plus a budget FHD+ option with 165 Hz.
Port selection comes with 2x Thunderbolt 4 connectors, 1x USB-A 3.2 for data transfers, 1x USB-A 3.2 with charge capabilities, HDMI 2.1 video out and a combo audio jack. Wireless connectivity is enabled via an Intel Wi-Fi 6E card with Bluetooth 5.3. Some product pictures also show additional ports on the back, including an Ethernet jack and two additional USB-A ports. A miniSD card reader can also be seen on the picture showcasing the thinness.
While the exact chassis profile is not provided, the 2.1 kg (4.6 lbs) weight makes this model one of the lightest 16-inch gaming laptops around. Color options include Shadow Black and Ceramic White. HP offers a 97 Wh battery for the more powerful components, and there is a 70 Wh option as well for the lower specs.
Availability is supposed to be “early spring,” which probably means some time this April. Prices start at US$1,669.99. Seeing that the official page has the URL address mentioning transcend-intel, we could be seeing AMD-based models further down the road.
