The AMD Radeon Pro 5500M is a mobile mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 14 chip (RDNA architecture) manufactured in the modern 7nm process. It features all 24 CUs of the chip (=1,536 shaders) and therefore 2 more CUs than the similar named mobile Radeon RX 5500M and desktop RX 5500. However, the clock speed of the GPU and memory is reduced by quite a bit in the Pro models. It was announced in the high end models of the 2019 Apple MacBook Pro 16 with 4 or 8 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory.
The Navi 14 chip uses the new RDNA (Radeon DNA) microarchitecture which is a successor the the GCN instruction set. It features a new processor design, a multi-level cache hierarchy and an improved rendering pipeline with support for GDDR6 memory.
The performance of the Pro 5500M is said to be up to 2.1x compared to the old Radeon RX 560X (predecessor) . Although the GPU has two more CUs than the Radeon RX 5500M, the slower core clock speed leads to a 13% slower peak performance according to AMD (4 versus 4.6 TFLOPS). Therefore, the gaming performance should be slightly below the Radeon RX 5500M which was about 1.9x faster than the Pro 560X (Alpha 15 vs MBP15 2019) in games under Windows. Compared to Nvidia GPUs, the performance should be between the GeForce GTX 1650 and GeForce GTX 1060 .
The similar RX 5500M chip is specified with a TDP of 85 Watt and therefore 20 Watt more than the slower clocked Radeon RX5300M . In games the power consumption of the chip ranges between 64 and 105 Watt (Ghost Recon gameplay recorded with HWInfo64). However, according to AMD the Pro 5500M is rated at a TGP of 50 Watt and may therefore use selected chips.
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 Max-Q ► remove from comparison
The Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 with Max-Q Design is a professional high-end graphics card for powerful laptops and mobile workstations. The Max-Q variants are lower clocked versions that are running more efficient and can be used in smaller chassis than the regular versions. It is based on the same TU104 chip as the consumer GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q but offers more shaders (128 more). Compared to the desktop RTX 5000, the mobile variant offers lower clock speeds. There are different versions available with 90, 85 and 80 Watt TGP power consumption.

The Quadro GPUs offer certified drivers , which are optimized for stability and performance in professional applications (CAD, DCC, medical, prospection, and visualizing applications). The performance in these areas is therefore much better compared to corresponding consumer GPUs.
NVIDIA manufacturers the TU104 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process and includes features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT), which should combine to create more realistic lighting effects than older GPUs based on the company's Pascal architecture (if the games support it). The Quadro RTX 5000 is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).
Performance
Compared to the regular Quadro RTX 5000 version, the Max-Q variants can be up to 27% slower (lower Turbo speeds) and therefore reach levels of the slower RTX 4000. Compared to consumer verisons, the Quadro variants have advantages due to the professional drivers and the large VRAM.
The still relatively high power consumption of the RTX5000 Max-Q makes the card most suited for big laptops.
NVIDIA Quadro T2000 (Laptop) ► remove from comparison
The Nvidia Quadro T2000 for laptops is a professional mobile graphics card that is based on the Turing architecture (TU117 chip). It is based on the consumer desktop GTX 1650 Ti with comparable clock speeds and therefore currently between a mobile GTX 1650 and GTX 1660 Ti . The chip is manufactured in 12nm FinFET at TSMC.
The GPU features 1024 shaders, 64 texture mapping units and 32 ROPs. The 4 GB GDDR5 memory is connected with a 128-bit memory interface and clocked at 2000 MHz. At a TGP of 60W, the clock speeds are specified from 1575 MHz (base) to 1785 MHz (boost).
The Turing generation did not only introduce raytracing for the RTX cards, but also optimized the architecture of the cores and caches. According to Nvidia the CUDA cores offer now a concurrent execution of floating point and integer operations for increased performance in compute-heavy workloads of modern games. Furthermore, the caches were reworked (new unified memory architecture with twice the cache compared to Pascal). This leads to up to 50% more instructions per clock and a 40% more power efficient usage compared to Pascal. In contrary to the faster Quadro RTX cards (e.g. Quadro RTX 3000 ), the T1000 and T2000 don not feature raytracing and Tensor cores.
