According to AMD, third-party analytical tools may not be giving correct information on Raven Ridge SoCs like the Ryzen 5 2500U or Ryzen 7 2700U. August was a slow month for Android smartphone releases, and the new AnTuTu reflects exactly that. While all August smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC, the next few months should bring a few new entries powered by Huawei's Kirin 980.

Wearables market grows by 5.5% year over year, showing wearables aren't dead yet

The wearables market grew 5.5% from Q2 2017 to Q2 2018 mainly due to large growth in developing markets. Apple continued its dominance and enjoyed a 38% year over year growth. Xiaomi came in a close second. Fitbit was a big loser, seeing a year over year decline of 22%. While the future of wearables is still in flux, the market is far from dead.

Battlefield V developer EA DICE revealed to Tom's Hardware that it had toned down some of the ray tracing effects in the game to enable more performance. DICE said that it is looking to hit a comfortable 60 fps on 1080p with ray tracing enabled. The game seems to be optimized for multi-core CPUs but does not support multi-GPU configurations.

Purism's upcoming Linux phone, the Librem 5, has run into some development delays that have pushed its release back 3 months to April 2019. Due to a flaw in the phone's CPU, the battery drains in less than an hour. Purism is working with the distributor to fix the flaw. In the meantime, dev kits are still scheduled to ship out in October.

The new NVIDIA Turing architecture may be coming to laptops soon. Listings on the GPU maker's website and on GitHub specifies a "GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile" with device ID and model number included. It suggests that this GPU will be available for non-desktop boards soon.

Samsung claims that it has conducted a series of consumer surveys and it is now confident that there is enough demand for a foldable smartphone, so it decided to move the launch of the Galaxy X from early 2019, to late 2018. The real reason why Samsung is making this move is most likely that it does not want to allow Chinese OEMs like Huawei to get a head start in this emerging market.
