The Huawei Mate 20 Lite will kickstart the Mate 20 series of smartphones when it launches in Europe later this week on September 7. Online retailers are already opening up pre-orders starting at 400 Euros in Black, Blue, or Gold color options with an Amazon Echo smart speaker thrown in to sweeten the deal.
The upcoming smartphone is expected to be a considerable performance upgrade over the current Mate 10 Lite as Huawei will be updating the SoC from a Kirin 659 to the new Kirin 710 with 4 GB of system RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. A 3.5 mm headphone jack sits next to the USB Type-C port and the large 6.3-inch IPS 2340 x 1080 resolution display looks very similar to the display on the pricier Huawei P20. Users unhappy with the notch can simply turn it off via the settings menu.
Other core features include the 20 MP rear camera with a wide f/1.8 aperture and a 2 MP secondary camera atop the rear fingerprint sensor. The front-facing cameras are even more impressive as they include a 24 MP f/2.0 sensor with a secondary 2 MP bokeh sensor for more creative selfies. From our short time with the Mate 20 Lite, the 7.6 mm thin glass build attracts fingerprints like there is no tomorrow, but it is at least solid to hold and with a tight grip.
The full-fledged Mate 20 is expected to launch a month later on October 16 with the even faster Kirin 980 SoC.
