Huawei are now rumored to have updated their Freebuds wireless earphones. The new models, which look oddly familiar, are purported to be capable of charging via Qi charging or a USB cable. They may also be capable of charging from a smartphone such as the upcoming Mate 20.

A German IT website has claimed to have images of the next generation of Huawei wireless earphones. This site, WinFuture, calls the putative product the Freebuds 2 Pro. According to the photos posted, they look quite like Apple AirPods. Unlike those earphones, however, the Freebuds 2 Pro can apparently charge via USB-C.

The Freebuds 2 Pro can also charge wirelessly, while in their (again) Apple-esque case. Interestingly, judging from the images, there is a hint that this case can also charge via a connection to a smartphone. The leak portrays them perched in their case on the back of a Huawei Mate 20 Pro - or, rather, what the phone's own leaks have told us this phone will look. The phone has the 2x2 camera sensor set-up suggested in earlier rumors.

According to WinFutures, this phone-based wireless charging is a proprietary Huawei development. The site claims that it would take about two hours to fully charge the Freebuds 2 Pro. The leak also states that each next-gen Freebud will be about 1.7 inches long and 0.73 inches wide. A complete set may also support high-resolution Bluetooth audio and voice recognition via bone conduction.

Therefore, the Freebuds 2 Pro just may make an interesting addition to the Huawei Mate 20/20 Pro launch event. On the other hand, this rumor also supports others that at least one of these new flagships will not feature a headphone jack.
