The Y-series from Huawei will soon include entry-level models as well as mid-range ones like the upcoming Y9 (2019) that just got the green light from TENAA. Powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC, the new Y9 should come in two variants: 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM / 128 GB storage. Additionally, it will get a 6.5-inch notched screen, dual camera and fingerprint on the back and a 3,900 mAh battery.

As Huawei is expected to exceed Apple’s annual device sale figures within the next 12 months, the Chinese company is constantly updating its entry-level, mid-range and high-end offerings. Huawei’s Youth series usually includes entry-level models, but, for 2019, Huawei plans to expand the series with some mid-range handhelds. First 2019 model from the Youth series to get leaked specs on TENAA is the Y9.

Even though the Y9 is said to integrate a Snapdragon 710 SoC, Huawei will most likely try to keep prices within the range of previous Youth models. The new Snapdragon 710 octa-core running at 2.2 GHz is coupled with either 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage or 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Additionally, storage space can be increased via the microSD slot.

While the premium high-end devices are now getting 7-inch displays, the mid-range models are now moving towards 6.5-inch screens. The Y9 is among the first Huawei mid-rangers to get a 6.5-inch screen with HD+ resolution, however, it will feature a notch that houses a 16 MP selfie. The back of the phone comes with a dual camera setup (20 MP + 2 MP) and a circular fingerprint reader.

The increased display demands a heftier 3,900 mAh battery, and TENAA informs that the device should run Android 8.1. With these specs approved by TENAA, Huawei should officially announce the Y9 very soon.
