Much better than the entry-level version. Quite recently we reviewed a very well-priced version of the Dell G5 15 5590 that had a Core i5-9300H and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650. But now we are taking a look at a more expensive model that features the Core i7-9750H and the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and costs 2000 Euros (~$2229). AMD and Nvidia make a good team. The HP Pavilion Gaming 15 runs all current games smoothly and displays them on its matte 15.6-inch screen (FHD, IPS). The laptop is well-equipped: 16 GB of RAM (dual-channel mode), NVMe SSD, HDD. Surprisingly, the battery life is excellent.

Medium performance for a high price. The Zephyrus M GU502GU starts at the same price as the Razer Blade 15 with the same CPU, GPU, and 144 Hz display. It becomes difficult to recommend the Asus when the Razer alternative is both smaller and more rigid while offering essentially the same level of gaming performance.

Versatile. With the IdeaPad C340-15IWL, Lenovo delivers a well-equipped 15.6-inch convertible, which also offers very good battery life. The IPS touchscreen display can be operated with your fingers as well as with the Lenovo Active Pen 2, which can be purchased separately.

Well-rounded gamer. Lenovo's gaming notebook displays all current games smoothly on its matte 17.3-inch screen (144 Hz, G-Sync, FHD, IPS) and also offers great connectivity: a combination of SSD + HDD, 16 GB of RAM (dual-channel mode) & a Thunderbolt 3 port. The iGPU is disabled ex-works but can be activated by the end user. This has a positive impact on battery life.

Mid-range Gaming with High-end Options. Dell advertises its G7 15 as a mid-range gaming machine and a step below the enthusiast Alienware series. In reality, the latest G7 carries many of the same configurable options as the latest Alienware including octa-core Core i9 and GeForce RTX 2080 options.

RGB light show. In the third generation of the ROG Strix Scar, Asus again bets on a lot of RGB illumination. However, what is under the hood is much more important. We have already tested a similar model based on an Intel Core i9, and now we are looking at the slightly more affordable ROG Strix Scar with the Core i7. All the basics. The G3 series is home to Dell's most affordable lineup of entry-level gaming laptops. This latest iteration gets the job done well for the price even if it doesn't do very much to buck the trend commonly associated with budget gaming machines.

Almost an ultrabook. The 15-inch all-rounder brings a GTX 1650 Max-Q in an elegant, slim aluminum case and is able to draw some attention with many positive values in the test. These include the bright, high-contrast display and the fast SSD, for example. However, it also shows a significant weakness.

Loud and proud. The MSI GL75 checks all the right boxes for a 2019 mid-range gaming laptop. Features like a high-refresh rate display and a per-key RGB backlit keyboard are nice additions, but fan noise and coil whine spoil an otherwise adequate package.

4 hours of battery life... at most. The GL65 is a huge upgrade over the GL63 in terms of visuals, weight, performance, and size. On the other hand, other key aspects like battery life, ports, brightness, and display quality have barely changed at all. This $1500 mid-range gaming machine can sometimes feel like a budget gaming laptop at times.

The second coming. The Lenovo Legion Y740 returns to our offices, but this time with a small performance upgrade over the version that we originally tested. The 15-inch gaming laptop fared well last time during our tests, so we are intrigued to see the effect that the upgrade from an 8th to a 9th generation Intel Core processor has. Ultrabook-gaming hybrid. The Zenbook 15 is one of the very few laptops equipped with an Intel U-series CPU and a GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU for an impressive level of gaming performance relative to the compact chassis size. It strikes an excellent balance between the portability and long runtimes of a traditional Ultrabook while offering enough GPU power to play the latest games at 1080p. ScreenPad 2.0 looks crisper and feels smoother than before, but its associated price premium remains a tough sell.

All-rounder with endurance. Acer's well-equipped 15.6-inch multimedia all-rounder handles all current computer games and represents them smoothly on the matte, Full HD, IPS display. A surprise is the excellent battery life.

Faster than any other Blade 15 GTX laptop. The GTX 1660 Ti is only marginally slower than the RTX 2060 in raw GPU horsepower while retailing for hundreds less and it manages to outperform the fastest Blade 15 Pascal configuration. Some hidden drawbacks like the slightly less accurate display and slower CPU performance detract only little from the overall experience.

Two 4K screens on one laptop. Asus' latest ScreenPad Plus makes the Apple Touch Bar look like child's play. The unlocked Core i9 CPU, GeForce RTX graphics, 1 TB Samsung SSD, and soldered 32 GB of RAM are hefty specifications that come with an equally hefty chassis and price.

Discrete gamer. Thanks to the Core i5-9300H processor and the GeForce GTX-1650 graphics core, the IdeaPad is able to bring all the current computer games smoothly to the matte 17.3-inch display (FHD, IPS). They are accompanied by a NVMe SSD, 16 GB of working memory, and a good battery life. Unfortunately, the working memory is only able to run in single-channel mode.
