Two steps forward, one step back. Lenovo replaces a standard CPU with a ULV processor in yet another ThinkPad. Thus, the Edge E550 sacrifices some performance in favor of power consumption and emissions. The inexpensive office laptop nevertheless makes an overall solid impression.

Performance break. Toshiba's multimedia notebook Qosmio X70 is available for 1,300 Euros (~$1411). For that money you get a lot of processing performance, but there is not enough GPU power for gaming and fast SSD storage would be good for the system as well.

With stamina. The ProBook 450 G2 attracts buyers with its low heating, low system noise, good input devices, and long battery runtimes. The display is a major weakness. In addition, HP charges a steep price for the computer.

Now with Broadwell. Laptop, tablet, all-in-one - Acer's 13.3-inch convertible has various operating modes and looks impressive in all. The "Ezel Aero" hinges make it possible. Acer has not neglected the other components. A swift SSD, decent input devices, and a great screen are part of the bundle. A Broadwell processor ensures the needed computing power.

Quiet long-lasting runner. The Aspire E5-521 can boast with a low operating noise and very long battery life. The laptop also has plenty of storage capacity. Its only real shortcoming is the dark, low-contrast screen.

Without stamina. At a first glance, the specs of the HP computer sound interesting. However, it turns out quickly in practice that the built-in hardware is very power-hungry. As a result, the battery life of the notebook is poor.

Desktop CPU with overclocking. No matter how powerful a laptop gets, the proper desktop will still outpace the portable solution. The Eurocom P5 Pro Extreme closes the gap by bringing home a full-fledged Core i7-4790K with overclocking and no compromises - This is a desktop in disguise.

Basic business partner. A price of 700 Euros (~$761) places Acer's new TravelMate P236 in the mid-range of business laptops. Since time is money, components with a decent speed ensure a smooth workflow. However, the TrackPad's handling rapidly slows down the work speed.

Backward roll! Lenovo's 15-inch workstation was just slightly changed and is now called W541. Besides some small technical developments you also get changed input devices. Lenovo, however, missed the chance to improve other weaknesses. We had a closer look at the result.

We are different. With the recent NSA surveillance affair, many users are concerned about their data on smartphones and tablets. One possible solution: Operating systems from independent developers. We looked at some of these systems (Jolla Sailfish, Ubuntu Touch, Cyanogen Mod and Firefox OS) and tell you who can benefit from a change.

More power. As of now, HP equips its ProBook with Broadwell processors, which provide the system with more computing power. Otherwise, no real modifications have been made compared with its Haswell-based precursors. Debut: We are testing the first Full HD model of the ProBook 470 lineup with the Broadwell-based ProBook.

Inexpensive Windows companion. In the shadow of its expensive Yoga lineup, Lenovo has launched an affordable office tablet with a practical keyboard cover that convinced us in the test. Our in-depth review reveals more about its performance, screen, build, as well as other aspects.

The return of the old master. What can be improved in an almost perfect notebook? Lenovo might have thought that it is better not to change too much and launched an only slightly revised edition of the T440s with the ThinkPad T450s. At least, the manufacturer (partly) answered the complaints about the predecessor's unusual five-button ClickPad.

Well-rounded gaming notebook. MSI GE62 2QE Apache is not lacking in processing power. The other equipment is also a good match: SSD, HDD, and 16 GB of RAM. The MSI commits one blunder with its built-in 4k display: it is not very bright.

All-rounder with weaknesses. Toshiba's 17.3-inch all-rounder is available for just under 1200 Euros (~$1346). The buyer gets a very well equipped computer with weaknesses: For example, the Satellite does not feature an IPS display.

Windows Phone X. Microsoft's Lumia 435 is an inexpensive Windows Phone. But wait a minute; isn't the Lumia 535 already available? We check whether Microsoft's smallest Lumia smartphone makes any sense.

Under observation. HP's ZBook 15 G2 is a high-performance, mobile workstation that is to particularly convince with an especially good reliability in the professional field. The lineup already reaped in compelling rates in the standard test procedure. A second test configuration now has to prove whether that remains that way in the long run in the debut of our long-term test.

No compromises - part 2. Compact, highly mobile, attractive - this is how one could sum up the Dell XPS 13. Thanks to its Core i7 processor, the notebook is quite powerful as well, although the battery life suffers as a result.

Exciting idea. After Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock Studios published their next multimedia experiment. This time they use the CryEngine from the shooter expert Crytek instead of Valve's Source engine. Our benchmark test will reveal how this impacts hardware requirements.

Megalomania. The MSI GT80 exceeds typical gaming standards in weight, but also surpasses in terms of the features and performance, including the mechanical keyboard and the SLI configuration with two GTX 980M chips. We tested the 18-inch monster.

Small and simple. Acer presents a 14-inch convertible dubbed Aspire R14 R3-471TG-552E that is to convince us with its elegant design, a 360-degree display, and decent system performance. Unfortunately, the screen does not quite meet our expectations.

Galactic? A bit late, but Alienware now also upgrades its premium laptops with the GeForce 900M line. As one of the first editorial offices, we had the opportunity to test the 15-inch model and the graphics amplifier. These are our impressions.

Broadwell all-rounder. With the Aspire, Acer offers a 17.3-inch all-rounder equipped with the latest Broadwell Core i7 processors. Furthermore, it features a GeForce graphics card, two storage devices (SSD and HDD) and a bright Full HD display.

Great for selfies. Microsoft's Lumia 735 is a good middle-class smartphone with decent cameras on both sides and a comprehensive set of features. The bold colors, which are common for the Lumia-series, make quite a statement as well.

A solid device. Like many other manufacturers, Asus now has a new 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet on the market. In terms of hardware, the VivoTab 8 is mostly on par with the competing models. In terms of price, however, currently the new Asus device is at the high end of the spectrum.

Working on details. Lenovo's ThinkPad T450s steps in big shoes. The expectations are high that the successor of the overall successful T440s is even a bit better. In fact, the T450s proves to be a carefully matured perfectionist - and it now challenges the competition from HP, Dell & co.

No (big) experiments. Lenovo only introduces small changes for the latest sibling of the X200-series – but just those changes improve a good subnotebook and result in an even better one. The manufacturer even listened to the criticism about the unpopular 5-button ClickPad of the predecessor.

With the power of IPS. There are a lot of multimedia notebooks on the market, but many devices reveal drawbacks when you look at the display quality. The Nexoc M514 wants to stand out from the competition with its IPS panel. The nice metal chassis helps to compete with the rivals as well.

Standing ovation. The Acer Aspire Switch 12 design has surprised us in its flexibility and ability to be a very productive hybrid PC with a huge range of usage scenarios and processing capability.

Slimline. How much flatter does it get? The Core M is at its best, with 12 millimeters in an airless case. The performance lags behind the Haswell competitors, and the Zenbook inspires no wonder in terms of battery life. Still, input devices, workmanship, emissions, and (last but not least) the price argue in favor of purchase.

No more fans. Core-M makes it possible: The new ThinkPad Helix 2 is available without a fan for the first time, but is still supposed to provide sufficient performance for all important applications. Can the versatile convertible meet the high expectations of business customers?

GTX 970M in a 14-inch laptop. What happens when you cram a 2.6 GHz i7-4720HQ CPU and an Nvidia GTX 970M together in an ultrathin 14-inch form factor? You get one of the fastest and truly portable gaming notebooks around - albeit one with some thermal issues.

Long-lasting all-rounder. The Aspire boasts a strong processor and gaming-suitable GPU — but users will not have to sacrifice long battery runtimes in exchange for its high-performance hardware.

Solid inner values. Acer introduces its updated Aspire V3-371-58DJ right after Intel released its new, economic Broadwell processors. We will find out whether the CPU refresh is enough to stand out from the competition.

The carbon dwarf. If you do not like a tablet, and a smartphone is not large enough, then the 12.5-inch Ultrabook Dell Latitude 12 E7250 is a full business notebook that fits in your bag. Let us see what the small device is capable of.
