Apple expands its lead in the smartphone market while Android takes the lead as top platform.

Market analysts at ComScore have released their latest findings in the smartphone market as of March 2015. Apple continues to dominate with its iPhone brand and has even climbed in market share from 41.6 percent to 42.6 percent compared to last quarter. This is followed by Samsung who dropped 1.4 percent to 28.3 percent and LG who dropped 0.4 percent to 8.4 percent. Both Motorola and HTC are at 4th and 5th place, respectively, with 5.0 percent and 3.8 percent of the market.

The most popular operating system is still Android with 52.4 percent of the market followed by iOS with 42.6 percent. The Google platform has actually dropped slightly during this period while Apple saw a very slight increase. Both Microsoft and Blackberry hardly saw any significant changes.

The top ranking application is Facebook on 69.5 percent of smartphones followed by YouTube and Google Play with 55.9 percent and 51.5 percent, respectively. Other popular apps like Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest are in 33.8 percent, 23.6 percent, and 20.3 percent of smartphones, respectively.
