These high-performance workstations will sport Xeon processors, Quadro GPUs, and auto-display calibration.

If the currently available ThinkPad W series isn't to your liking, then the even higher ThinkPad P series may tickle your fancy.

Lenovo has introduced the new P series at an event in San Francisco with the reveal of its first two models: The 15.6-inch P50 and 17.3-inch P70. These business workstations are equipped with some of the latest technologies including 100 percent gamut 4K displays, 64 GB DDR4 RAM (4x SODIMM slots), 4x storage bays, 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports, and automatic display calibration after resuming from sleep with X-Rite Pantone calibration. Of course, both models are MIL-SPEC tested with the expected magnesium alloy chassis and internal roll cage.

The P50 and P70 will also utilize a dual-fan cooling system that Lenovo promises to be cooler and quieter. Depending on the application demand, the system can provide more power to the CPU for CPU-intensive tasks or to the GPU for GPU-intensive tasks. A quick glance at the pre-production model shows just a single heat pipe stretching from one fan to the other. Similar Eurocom workstations can have as many as 6 or 7 heat pipes, so we are genuinely curious as to how the comparatively smaller cooling system for the P50 and P70 can hold up during heavy loads.

Expect the new P50 and P70 to be available before the end of this year for $1599 and $1999, respectively. A quick glance at their respective hardware specifications is as follows:

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s. When I'm not managing day-to-day activities and US review articles on Notebookcheck, you can catch me following the eSports scene and the latest gaming news.
