The NanoPi M4V2, as its name suggests, is a new revision of the NanoPi M4, which FriendlyElec launched last year. The Rockchip RK3399 powered single-board computer (SBC) includes 4 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM, four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 2.0 Type-C ports and a 40-pin GPIO header. The board also supports Gigabit Ethernet and up to 802.11 ac Wi-Fi. The M4V2 includes power and recovery buttons too. The NanoPi M4V2 is available to order now for US$70.00 from FriendlyARM, which ships worldwide.

Apple and its market machine is in full spin mode following the launch of the iPhone 11 range along with the Watch Series 5 and 10.2-inch iPad. Yes, it is true these devices are new. However, I take exception to Apple labeling them as ‘all-new’ on its website. Not one of its new products is ‘all-new.’

The upcoming Huawei Mate 30 and foldable Mate X will not ship with Google Mobile Services (GMS) pre-installed due to the ongoing ban on Huawei products by the Trump administration citing national security concerns. However, CEO Richard Yu said that users can still install Google apps on their own and that the company is contemplating shifting to HarmonyOS starting from the P40 series next year if the situation doesn't improve.

Huawei has unveiled the Kirin 990 and the Kirin 990 5G at IFA 2019. The Kirin 990 5G offers a built-in 5G modem, faster CPU clocks, and a new Da Vinci 2+1 NPU architecture. The new SoC also features a 16-core Mali-G76 MP16 GPU and will first be seen powering handsets such as the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold has already sold out in its home market of Korea just a day after its launch. Admittedly, only around 2,500 units were on sale of the bleeding edge device but it shows that early adopters are keen to try out the latest technology from the Korean tech behemoth.

As expected, LG has officially revealed its latest flagship smartphone at Berlin’s IFA 2019 expo. According to a purported leak, the OPPO A5 (2020) will have the exact same SoC, screen, battery, and camera as the A9 (2020). The price difference is rumored to be less than US $40.

The well-known tech tipster IceUniverse claims to have attended a Vivo event in which this OEM outlined plans to use Samsung's newest SoC in one of its own phones. This chipset, the Exynos 980, is thought to be best suited to mid-range phones - albeit ones with 5G. Vivo apparently plans to release just such a device before the end of 2019.

The wait is over. Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Fold in its home market of Korea. Locals will get the Fold in a 5G variant with 512 GB of storage on board while other markets will also get the 5G option or a 4G LTE version.

Samsung does not directly specify this, but the Exynos 980 appears to be aimed at premium mid-range handhelds like the top-of-the-line Galaxy A-series. Banners put up by Huawei at the IFA 2019 venue confirm that the upcoming flagship Kirin 990 SoC will feature an on-die 5G modem instead of an external solution. The Kirin 990 will be the first SoC to be fabbed on TSMC's new 7nm FinFET Plus EUV process and will also be the first to support native 4K 60 fps video recording.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor has recently been spotted on Geekbench as part of a system recorded as “Qualcomm CLS”. The two patents that Huawei filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office at the end of May — and were published last Friday — reveal one color scheme known as "Breathing Crystal" alongside a black/gray design. Initially announced to be a Kirin 980 device, the Mate X, which got delayed once again, is said to be getting an upgrade to the unannounced Kirin 990 SoC. LG’s next flagship smartphone the G8X ThinQ has been leaked ahead of its official unveiling at IFA Berlin next month. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 range is still only up for pre-order but unusually a number of official Samsung accessories have already reached retail channels. Australian consumer electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi has been spotted by Notebook Check selling new cases for the Galaxy Note 10 as well as the new Wireless Charger Stand with Fast Charging 2.0 tech up to 15W.

After no less than four different Samsung handsets that use the Exynos 7885, it seems there is room for at least one more. The Galaxy M10S has just surfaced on Geekbench with this processor inside, 3 GB of memory, and Android 9.0 Pie-based software. Unfortunately, this handset has no official launch date yet.

Shortly after the Xiaomi device with model number M1908F1XE was received its 3C certification, China Unicom revealed a list of 5G phones available and to be launched soon. This list includes a few handsets that have not been released yet and the Xiaomi Mi 9S is one of them. Sadly, we have no official confirmation of the fact that the M1908F1XE is the Mi 9S yet.

Unable to make the jump to 7 nm for the time being, Global Foundries is looking to expand the life span and scalability of its current 12 nm node with 3D stacking manufacturing techniques. The company is now collaborating with ARM in order to deliver 12 nm FinFET chips with higher core counts and lower latency between cores.
