Update: Another report has corroborated Ice Universe's statement on the P40 Pro and its 10x optical zoom. The Huawei flagship is expected to feature a redesigned, updated periscope lens setup. The sensor will purportedly be an 8 MP one with an f/4.0 aperture and a "1G2P" lens.

-------------------------------

Huawei pushed the world of smartphone photography forward with the introduction of night mode on the P20 Pro last year and has steadily improved its low-light and zoom photography chops with subsequent flagship releases. The company is set to take another step forward with the next device in the series, the P40 Pro.

According to Ice Universe, the Huawei P40 Pro will feature a 10x optical zoom setup. The P30 Pro is still the king of smartphone zoom, alongside the Mi Note 10 and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom at the exclusive table of phones with 5x optical zoom abilities. The P40 Pro, if this leak is anything to go by, will put all of those phones to shame.

The P30 Pro and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom use a periscope lens to achieve their 5x optical zoom, and we expect that camera technology to also be used on the P40 Pro.

Meanwhile, renders of the P40 Pro have also surfaced. The P40 will sport a flat display in the region of 6.1", while the P40 Pro will feature a bigger quad-curved display in the region of 6.6". Both phones are expected to use AMOLED displays with in-display fingerprint readers.

It's unknown if the selfie cameras of both phones will be housed within notches or punch-holes. Motorized pop-up cameras will not make an appearance, however. Sadly, neither phone will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. The P30 did, but the P40 will dump it entirely.

Other possible specifications for the P40 Pro include a 120 Hz display and a 5500 mAh battery. It's expected to sport a penta-camera setup comprised of a 64 MP IMX686 main shooter, 20 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, 16 MP telephoto lens, macro lens, and Time of Flight sensor.

The phones are officially billed for a March launch.
