However, unlike Nvidia's and AMD's implementations, Intel may be looking to support a hybrid version that allows Xe discrete cards to be paired with the iGPUs coming with the gen 12 CPUs scheduled to release next year.

Intel's "Element" modular platform spotted in upcoming Ghost Canyon NUCs

In order to house the new modular platform, Intel's upcoming Ghost Canyon mini PCs will feature the largest NUC enclosures yet. This also allows for improved cooling, and it looks like Intel has also modified the layout to include a small backplane that houses the "Element" module and can support a discrete GPU and an NVMe SSD. The "Element" module itself can be powered by laptop-grade CPUs like the Core i9-9980HK, Core i7-9750H or Core i5-9300H models.

Razer is getting into the wireless earbuds market, according to news from China. The earbuds and their accompanying charging case look like a hybrid between the Apple AirPods and the Samsung Galaxy Buds but adorned with the gaming company's logo. The earbuds, which seem to be sold under Razer's Hammerhead branding, are available to buy now for CNY 799 (~US$113). There is no word yet whether they will be sold outside of China, though.

Sony recently filed a patent for what appears to be a cloud-connected controller, similar to Google's Stadia Controller. This could be a controller designed for Sony's PlayStation Now game streaming service. Considering Google's heavy push into game streaming, it makes sense that Sony would be working hard on improving its own game streaming services.

Google's Stadia wireless controller will require physical cable for PCs and mobile devices at launch

At launch, Google's Stadia Controller will not be usable with a PC or compatible mobile device without the use of a USB connection. While the controller will work wirelessly when playing through a Chromecast Ultra, PCs and mobile devices will require a USB HID connection for the Stadia Controller to work properly. This is odd, as the Stadia Controller connects directly to Google's servers over WiFi and sends inputs to the cloud rather than a local device.

References to DirectX ray tracing were found in the latest AMD drivers indicating that AMD could be enabling ray tracing support for the RX 5000-series Navi GPUs with the release of the December update for Radeon Adrenalin Software. At this year's IDC event in Tokyo, Intel disclosed a few more details about the upcoming Xe GPU architecture. Besides the hardware-level ray tracing support on the discrete GPUs launching in mid-2020, Intel also intends to double the performance of the current Ice Lake Iris Plus iGPUs on the Gen 12 Xe GPUs integrated with the Tiger Lake CPUs.

According to the Steamworks developer site on Steam, Valve is working on a feature that will automatically add online multiplayer support to local-only multiplayer games. Remote Play Together is expected to launch in beta during the week of October 21. Details like network speed requirements are still unknown at this point.
