It has only been a few days since it emerged that Sony's XH90 TV could not game in 4K and 120 Hz, despite it being one of its selling points. Specifically, content on Sony TVs like the XH90 and X900H currently looks blurry at 4K and above 100 Hz. Sony blamed data throughput for the issue, but insisted that everything was working as normal, despite evidence to the contrary.
Now, Sony appears to have rowed back on its original position with the publication of a new support page. As the screenshot below demonstrates, Sony states that a software update will address the 4K/120 Hz issue. The company adds that the following TVs will be eligible for an update, whenever it arrives:
- XH90xx_X90xxH_X91xxH_XH92xx Series
- XBR-55X900H
- XBR-55X90CH
- XBR-65X900H
- XBR-65X90CH
- XBR-75X900H
- XBR-75X90CH
- XBR-85X900H
- XBR-85X90CH
It is unclear what Sony means by address, though. To address does not necessarily mean to fix, and it is vague enough to allow Sony to only mitigate the issue. Sony has not offered a timeline for the fix either and currently claims that the software update will only apply to TVs sold in Canada and the US. Hopefully, the update receives a wider rollout than those two countries, but it could be 2021 before anything tangible arrives.
