All good things come in threes? Lenovo now sells the third generation of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme with slightly more powerful components. The case and the cooling solution have not changed, so is it still sufficient, or is it time for a more substantial redesign?

Hot CAD compact class. Lenovo's ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 borrows its design from the T-model ThinkPad T14 and includes an Nvidia Quadro GPU as a unique selling point. For the majority of users, this will probably only bring minor advantages, also because its performance is limited per se. However, the ThinkPad P14s can be a good choice for one or two CAD applications on the go.

AMD dominance in the ThinkPad-series? The predecessor suffered from a dim display and a throttled Whiskey Lake processor. For the first time ever we also take a look at the AMD SKU of this year's Lenovo L-series ThinkPad and are excited to see how well the Ryzen 5 4500U hexa-core performs. After all, the AMD-equipped ThinkPad E14 and T14 notebooks managed their Intel counterparts by significant margins.

UGREEN is a brand known for its multi-port docking solutions. Its latest product does one better, however, in that it is a hybrid of one of these devices and a laptop stand. Its maker asserts that its built-in connectivity is housed in a chassis made of high-end, recyclable materials. But how does this idea work out in practice?

AMD upgrade. Lenovo's ThinkPad L series includes inexpensive business laptops that have been able to convince in the past with good input devices and quite high-quality workmanship. Price-performance champ. Lenovo outfits its new ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 with dual-channel RAM, AMD Ryzen 4000 and a smaller chassis. The new model is not fault-free, but in many important aspects, the Lenovo laptop delivers. Its low price is an additional trump card.

Compact Ryzen power. As the newest small ThinkPad laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 is the continuation of the traditional ThinkPad X series. In 2020, the AMD version bears the same name as the Intel model - and it is much faster. Buyers still have to live without Thunderbolt, but the performance advantage is so big that we do not consider it a deal-breaker.

Offside. This year's T-series ThinkPads have only received minor updates. Nevertheless, the smaller 14-inch models have improved quite a bit in regard to performance thanks to AMD Ryzen 4000. This cannot be said about the larger ThinkPad T15 Gen 1 though as it lacks the Renoir option entirely and has to make do with Intel's Comet Lake. Our extensive review revealed that this can be a major show-stopper for the large T-series ThinkPad.

New name but not much new otherwise. ThinkPad T400, T410, T420, T490. Lenovo's ThinkPad T series has followed the same naming scheme for more than a decade. That changes with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14, the latest model in the mainstream ThinkPad series for enterprise customers. But apart from the new name and a small CPU update, which provides a doubtful usefulness, there's not much new.
