Lenovo celebrates thirty years of ThinkPad with limited anniversary model
Happy Birthday ThinkPad! On October 5, 1992, the first ThinkPad laptop was introduced, exactly thirty years ago. For the anniversary, Lenovo is introducing a limited special edition of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G10.

Exactly thirty years ago at the now defunct COMDEX (Computer Dealer Exhibition), IBM introduced its most well-known PC brand, the ThinkPad. The first ThinkPad laptop, the ThinkPad 700C, had a rather large color TFT (at least for 1992 standards), an unconventional black design (laptops used to be beige) and the red TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard, which has never before been used on a laptop.

Since 2005, the ThinkPad brand belongs to Lenovo. The period since then has had its ups and downs, but overall, ThinkPads today are still recognizable as, well, ThinkPads. The black design and red TrackPoint have been kept, even though touchpads have largely outperformed TrackPoints when it comes to popularity.

As with every anniversary since the 10th, Lenovo is introducing a special anniversary model: The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 30th Anniversary Edition. This model is limited to 6000 units world-wide, 1000 of which are for the Japanese market and 5000 for the rest of the world. In the US, there appear to be two configurations - both feature Alder-Lake P28-CPUs, with the less expensive model using the Intel Core i7-1260P and the more expensive the i7-1270P. RAM can be either 16 or 32 GB, with either 512 GB or 1 TB SSD storage. The ThinkPad 30 always has a 4K resolution display, with the less expensive model being IPS based and the more expensive one using an OLED panel.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 30th Anniversary Edition is already available over at lenovo.com, starting at roughly $3,440. The more expensive high-end configuration costs $4,170, though these prices are subject to change - Lenovo often has discount options available.
