Every beginning is difficult, this is true for both software and hardware. It would be nice if customers would get a perfect product from the beginning, but alas, that is often wishful thinking. Manufacturers routinely have to patch issues away with firmware updates. Most of the time, the issues are at least not serious enough to make using the device impossible.
Most of the time, but not always. Such an unfortunate case is sadly the Lenovo ThinkPad Z16. We have had a sample for weeks, but the review is not done yet. The reason: Our review device has an extremely annoying issue, where it will suddenly reboot itself when WiFi is enabled.
We are not alone with such issues, as there are many reports to be found on the internet about similar cases, where the ThinkPad Z16 becomes unusable for its users due to frequent random restarts.
Lenovo says that they have fixed a random restart issue with the latest BIOS release 1.21, but this fix only applies when a Bluetooth mouse is used. Our review device certainly did not stop restarting itself after the update, so we asked for our review sample to be exchanged for another one.
Hopefully, this issue will not occur again with the replacement. The smaller Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 was able to achieve a very good score in our review, and we could see something similar being possible for the ThinkPad Z16 - but only if the random restarts stop.
