A new report has revealed that Microsoft has no plans to match Asus by adopting Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chipset. Instead, the next Surface Pro and Surface Laptop will be limited to its Snapdragon X2 Plus and Snapdragon X2 Elite chipsets as an earlier rumour suggested.

According to a new report, Microsoft is also preparing to release new versions of its smaller Surface Pro and Surface Laptop offerings. Previously restricted to a single Snapdragon X chipset, Microsoft's new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch will arrive with a choice of Intel and Snapdragon chipsets.

Intel's Core Ultra X series processors have been well-received so far. New rumours suggest that Microsoft is said to avoid these processors entirely. Reportedly, the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 will skip even the Core Ultra 9 386H in favour of lesser Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 variants.

A new leak has outlined when Microsoft will be updating its Surface Laptop and Surface Pro ranges. Surprisingly, new Intel models are expected to launch months earlier than their Snapdragon X2 counterparts.
