Dell releases new 16-inch laptops with AMD Ryzen or Intel Panther Lake processors and 64 GB LPCAMM2 RAM

Dell has started selling the Pro Precision 5 Series 16S. Joined by the smaller 14S globally, the Pro Precision 5 Series 16S is much lighter than most workstations. Specifically, the new 16-inch laptop starts at 1.91 kg, which puts something like the MacBook Pro 16 to shame (curr. $2,526 on Amazon). Please see our recent review to see how this generation's M5 Pro chip fares inside Apple's 2.1 kg laptop.
Unfortunately, the Pro Precision 5 Series 16S lacks any dedicated graphics to speak of. Instead, Dell has opted for up to the Arc B390 and Radeon 890M within the Core Ultra X9 388H vPro and Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470, respectively. Setting that aside, the Series 16S can also be configured with 4G or 5G cellular connectivity and up to 64 GB of user-replaceable LPCAMM2 RAM when opting for Intel variants.
Moreover, PCIe Gen 5 storage is available, as are 57 Wh or 70 Wh batteries. Only 1200p or 1600p IPS displays can be configured at present, though. For reference, while many of these panels deliver 500 nits peak brightness in SDR mode with 100% sRGB colour space coverage, all peak at 60 Hz. A 120 Hz panel of some description should be available eventually.
The Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 16S starts at $2,415 with Intel processors but $2,201 with AMD alternatives. Meanwhile, the same laptop costs £1,658 with AMD processors in the UK and runs to about £100 more with Intel alternatives. Similarly, Intel options retail from about €100 more in the Eurozone with a €1,986 starting price. Please see Dell's website and the links below for more details.
