Verdict: A tougher sell than the ThinkPad T14 Gen 6
The 2025 model ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 was a great step forward with Lunar Lake. At least this base model of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 Intel feels more like a sidegrade compared to its predecessor. Overall, there are some advances: The RAM is upgradeable again, repairability is much improved and the speakers are also better. And the ThinkPad is still a very cool and quiet device, ideal for office environments, with long battery life and great input devices. Performance, however, stagnates, or, in the case of the GPU, regresses. And the screen of the base model has a disappointing color gamut coverage.
Of course, many of these complaints can be alleviated by choosing a more high-end configuration. A faster CPU with the big ARC GPU, a better screen and an even bigger battery, everything is available - for a price. As tested, this model costs north of €1,700, and things quickly escalate when you choose to upgrade the specs. A problem this year that is not at all exclusive to the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7.

The ThinkPad T series needs no introduction. It is THE ThinkPad series, the one which you would typically imagine when you imagine a ThinkPad laptop. Introduced in the year 2000, few other product lines can sport such a long running history. The newest 14-inch model is called the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7, and we are reviewing the Intel variant of this model. As always with the ThinkPad T series, it is targeting the middle part of the B2B market, powering laptop fleets around the globe.
Specifications: Entry level with Core Ultra 5 325
Case: Everything new for the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7
Lenovo redesigns its ThinkPads roughly every third generation. Accordingly, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 brings a brand new design, after the T14 Gen 5 and T14 Gen 6 shared one. Most users will not be able to spot the differences between the different generations immediately, but there are many small ones. The biggest difference on the outside is the new hinge design, which swaps out the smaller dual metal hinges with a long single-piece hinge. This enables smaller screen bezels and for Lenovo to place the Wi-Fi antennas in the hinge.
What has not changed is the overall construction of the laptop. Lenovo keeps to the formula: Plastic with a black, smooth coating, reinforced with magnesium in the base unit. This makes for a stable construction, and though it does not feel as "premium" as a complete metal chassis, it certainly makes the ThinkPad laptop robust. Also, while the material still can get dirty, it seems like Lenovo has improved the coating, so it does not get as smudgey as fast as on past generations.
With the new hinge, the lid can be opened with one hand. The max opening angle is still 180 degrees, which is good. Less good: There is a little bit of wobbling.
The new ThinkPad T14 is around 2 mm smaller in width and length than the older model. Weight is basically identical, at least when comparing the T14 G6 Intel with our review unit. With a height of 23.5 mm at the thickest point, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 is ever so slightly thicker than its predecessor.
Connectivity: Repairability is the headliner for the T14 Gen 7
The port selection has not changed compared with the older model, continuing a good mix between legacy ports and modern stuff with Thunderbolt 4. Possible improvements would include an SD card slot and a third USB-C port on the right side.
Communication
The fast Wi-Fi 7 Intel BE211 card does well in our benchmarks, achieving high transfer rates. Optional WWAN modules with 4G or 5G connectivity are available, though our model does not feature one. It can be upgraded though, as the nanoSIM slot, antennas and free M.2 2242 slot are all there.
Webcam
The webcam of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 G7 is nothing special. It does fine for video calls, but the quality could be better.

Security
As a business laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 has the full array of security features. This includes common features, like a fingerprint reader and infrared camera for quick biometric log-in, but also more obscure ones like a Kensington Lock slot and Smartcard reader. There also is a physical webcam shutter for increased privacy.
Accessories
Besides the 65 W GaN USB-C charger, there are no accessories included in the box.
Maintenance
This is the area where Lenovo improves the most. Changes include an easier opening process for the bottom cover, a battery that is no longer screwed in and can be released by pushing a button, modular USB-C port, and a fan that can be cleaned without also changing the heat-paste. Additionally, on this Intel model, Lenovo has introduced LPCAMM2 memory, which replaces the older SO-DIMM standard. The only soldered components are the CPU and the Wi-Fi card, the M.2 2280 SSD is modular and there is a free M.2 2242 slot for an optional 5G card. And, as before for the ThinkPad T14 series, the keyboard remains easily user replaceable.
Sustainability
Sustainability remains an important topic for Lenovo. With the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7, these efforts include plastic free packaging and recycled materials used in the device. As always for ThinkPads, Lenovo provides many years of parts support and driver updates, as well as manuals and maintenance videos. Notable: The CO2 emmissions of this ThinkPad (111 kg/CO2 equivalent) are lower compared with its predecessor.
Warranty
Lenovo provides a 36 month warranty for this German unit. The warranty service includes bring-in service, Premier support with on-site service can be purchased optionally. The same goes for a warranty extension to five years. Since this is a business device, the warranty applies internationally as well.
Input Devices: Excellent ThinkPad keyboard with a new look
Keyboard
This new keyboard does not feel different, but it looks different: Lenovo keeps using Chiclet keys with 1.5 mm of travel and rounded dishes, but there are changes to the two stage backlit keyboard: Specifically, the key-labeling has been completely revamped, with centered key labels and a new font. Whether this is something to your liking or not is entirely up to the user.
Overall, this keyboard, with its sensible layout and great typing feel, is to our liking - typing on it feels like a breeze.
Touchpad and TrackPoint
While the keyboard has changed, touchpad and TrackPoint remain unchanged. Lenovo keeps a mechanical Mylar touchpad with a smooth texture (11.5 x 6 cm), and the red pointing-stick with its three dedicated buttons. Both solutions work well and feel high-quality, though many consumer laptops of this price range will feature a glass touchpad instead.
Display: Base screen is rather dull
There are a total of four different 14-inch 16:10 screens for the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 Intel, all of them are matte:
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, 60 Hz
- Privacy Guard WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 500 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, 60 Hz, Touch
- Low Power WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 500 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, 60 Hz, Touch
- 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800), OLED, 500 cd/m², 100 % DCI-P3, 120 Hz VRR, HDR
Our base version contains the cheapest panel, which still delivers a good enough screen brightness, but lags behind the Low Power panel we tested on the 2025 ThinkPad T14 Gen 6.

* ... smaller is better
As usual for cheaper panels, color accuracy and quality are problematic - even with a calibration, this screen will display colors wrong, due to the lack of adequate sRGB coverage. This screen is not usable for photo or video editing where correct colors may be critical.

Performance: Panther Lake non-H rather unimpressive
There is a total of ten different Intel "Panther Lake" CPUs for the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 - five variants with six to eight cores (Intel Core Ultra 5 332, Ultra 5 325, Ultra 5 335, Ultra 7 355, Ultra 7 365) and five with twelve to sixteen cores (Intel Core Ultra 5 336H, Ultra 5 338H, Ultra 7 356H, Ultra 7 366H, Ultra X7 358H). All CPUs contain the Intel Graphics iGPU, except for the Ultra 5 338H with the Intel ARC B370 and the Ultra X7 358H with the Intel ARC B390.
The ThinkPad laptop supports up to 64 GB LPDDR5X-7467 memory, which runs at LPDDR5X-6800 speed for the non-H class CPUs. RAM is upgradeable, as Lenovo uses LPCAMM2 memory. The SSD can also be upgraded, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 provides a single M.2 2280 slot. 2 TB is the maximum capacity ex-factory.
Testing Conditions
- Best power efficiency: Sustained load 15 W / Maximum consumption 30 W
- Balanced: Sustained load 15 W / Maximum consumption 44 W
- Best performance: Sustained load 25 W / Maximum consumption 44 W
All benchmarks were performed in the mode "Best performance".
Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 5 325 is the most basic Intel Panther Lake chip with eight CPU cores. The four P cores run with clock-speeds of up to 4.5 GHz, and the four E cores with up to 3.4 GHz. More comparisons with other CPUs are possible with out processor comparison list.
In our testing, the ThinkPad does slightly worse than its Lunar-Lake-equipped predecessor. Overall, the result is very close, which also means that AMD based models are far ahead in terms of raw CPU performance. This is a processor that is very usable for day-to-day tasks, like Lunar Lake, but not best suited for more demanding applications.
When the machine runs on its battery, the CPU performance is throttled by around 10 percent.

Storage Devices
The PCIe 4.0 SSD from Samsung has a capacity of 512 GB. It is not the fastest drive in our testing, and also exhibits some throttling problems when tested under sustained load.

GPU Performance
The basic 4 Xe Intel Graphics of our review unit is nothing to write home about: Its performance is certainly serviceable for everyday use, especially in an office and web-browsing context. The GPU is about as fast as the AMD Radeon 860M, which AMD uses in comparable Ryzen CPUs. The Intel ARX 140V of Lunar Lake is around 30 to 50 percent faster; unsurprising, since it has double the amount of Xe units.

Power Consumption
This ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 runs almost as efficient as the T14 Gen 6 Intel - almost. The AMD-based competitors are all less efficient.
The 65 W charger is adequately sized for the maximum power consumption of the system.

Battery Life
Lenovo ships the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 with two different internal batteries, either with 60 Wh or 75 Wh of capacity. Our review unit, as the base model, contains the smaller battery, which is still three Wh bigger than the battery of the T14 Gen 6. That older model with Lunar Lake remains the king of efficiency, but the T14 Gen 7 almost can match it, with around 18 hrs of battery life in the Wi-Fi/websurfing test (150 cd/m² brightness). With the big battery, this device would be a battery life champion.

Notebookcheck Rating
Lenovo has crafted a great continuation of the ThinkPad T14 line with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7, especially due to the improved repairability, but the high pricing due to the RAM crisis hurts its appeal.
