Verdict: last gen ThinkPad laptop can be worth it
Lenovo has already announced the new ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD, so why should anyone buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD? Plain and simple: The new model is probably gonna be much more expensive, due to the escalating supply crisis in the PC industry. And the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD, which is still based on last year's pricing model, can still give you a lot of value. There is a lot to love about this version of the ThinkPad T14, and it is a proven and tested workhorse at this point.
Also, one reason for this is that AMD stagnates at the moment: If you want Ryzen AI 400, you can also still buy Ryzen AI 300, as this year's Gorgon Point platform is just a refresh. The performance of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD is still excellent for everyday office use, and the battery life is also good. Plus, it barely gets loud. And of course, it offers everything you expect from a true business ThinkPad: Connectivity and security features, a bright, matte screen, the TrackPoint and a comfortable keyboard as well as good repairability and upgradebility options.

The ThinkPad T series has been fitted with AMD processors for years now, and the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD is the newest model on the market with AMD's Ryzen CPUs - in our case, the AMD Zen 5 chips of the "Krackan Point" series, also known as Ryzen AI 300. This 14-inch business laptop is Lenovo's mainstream offering for big corporate customers, powering corporate fleets across the world.
Specifications: AMD Ryzen AI 7 & WUXGA screen
Case and Connectivity: ThinkPad stays the course
In terms of the chassis design, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 certainly has that classic black, boxy ThinkPad energy - with a few modern additions. This certainly includes the camera bump on the lid, which also serves as practical handle to open the ThinkPad. Sadly, opening it with one hand is not possible, but otherwise, the ThinkPad quality shines through. The ThinkPad T14 G6 is a robust and stable PC with a chassis made out of plastic and magnesium. As all black ThinkPads, the smooth, slightly rubbery surface does tend to get dirty pretty easily.
Compared with the older Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD, the port selection remain unchanged. The same is true for the internal layout, which means important components such as the keyboard, battery, SSD and RAM are easily user-serviceable.

Input Devices: Still great ThinkPad quality
The backlit ThinkPad keyboard is unchanged compared with the previous generation. With 1.5 mm travel, well sized Chiclet keys and a very usable layout, the ThinkPad keyboard remains one of the strongest assets of this laptop series.
Display: Matte, bright screen for everyday work
There are five screen options for the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD, all of them in a 14-inch format and the 16:10 aspect ratio:
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, matte
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, matte, Touch
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 500 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, matte, Low Power
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), IPS, 500 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, matte, Touch, ePrivacy
- 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800), OLED, 500 cd/m², 100 % DCI-P3, semi-matte/semi-glossy, HDR, 120 Hz VRR
The Low Power panel in our review device seems like the most sensible choice for users, aside from people who want the OLED quality. It is bright, with an average brightness of 525 cd/m², making it usable outdoors, and delivers "good enough" colors for everyday use. The screen does not use PWM. It is a bit slow in terms of response time and the refresh rate is limited to 60 Hz, so it is certainly not the best choice for multimedia and games.

Storage Devices
Our specific review device uses a 512 GB SSD from Samsung, the PM9C1b. It performs well in our testing, topping out the other business laptops. Also, it does not throttle under load.

GPU Performance
The GPU performance of the integrated AMD Radeon 860M is unremarkable, and that is putting it lightly. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD is not a system you want to use for anything heavy related to GPU performance, which of course also applies to games.

Power Consumption
With a minimum idle consumption of 2.9 W, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD can run very power efficient, and a maximum consumption of 5.3 W while idling is not too bad, either. Under load, it consumes a maximum of 65.8 W, which is slightly more than the 65 W charger can manage. However, the power consumption quickly drops, which means the system will not discharge during normal use.

Battery Life
A battery life of almost 14 hrs in our Wi-Fi/websurfing test (150 cd/m² brightness) is a notable improvement over the previous Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5. Still, the battery life does not come close to equaling the T14 G6 with Intel Lunar Lake, which achieved over 19 hrs in the same test.
