Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 pricing may have leaked ahead of launch

AMD is preparing to bring the next top of the line Ryzen CPU to market following the announcement late last month. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is the long rumored beastly chip that is being marketed as an AI productivity chip rather than a gaming CPU, despite the dual AMD 3D V-cache and its performance gains over the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. During the announcement, AMD did not share the price for the chip but a new leak hints at how much more expensive it is going to be.
The information comes from two Canadian PC hardware stores, as well as a UK store. They seemed to have jumped the gun on their listings because the product detail pages have since been taken down, however, the product listing pages are still up, and they show the pricing as well. PC-Canada.com shows the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 listed for $1,374 (around $987 USD) and the Shoprbc.com store has similar pricing at $1,375. As for the UK retailer Gamingkit.co.uk, the CPU is listed for £731 (without VAT - around $967 USD).

These listings suggest the upcoming CPU will be priced at around $970 to $1,000 when it becomes available for purchase on April 22 in the US. For reference, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is priced at $675 (buy on Amazon) and for a claimed 13% performance uplift in some tasks for the 9950X3D2, the price gap seems quite significant. It should be noted that this isn’t the final pricing and the CPU may be available for lower, possibly in the $800 to $900 range.
The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 features 16 cores and 32 threads with a max boost clock of 5.6 GHz. What sets it apart from its X3D counterpart is the 192 MB of L3 cache compared to 128 MB, and a TDP of 200W as opposed to 170W. Despite the targeted workflows, this should result in better gaming performance as well.
