Serial leaker Moore's Law Is Dead has revealed some interesting information concerning the release date of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 dual-3D V-Cache CPU. Per the leaker, the CPU isn't expected to hit store shelves until Q1 2026.

A few days ago, leaker Chi11eddog gave us our first look at the specs of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. For the former, AMD is reportedly increasing the amount of 3D V-Cache, while the former is seeing a clock speed increase. Moore’s Law Is Dead has now provided some much-needed updates regarding the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 release date.

Relaying the information from different retail, AMD, and “Tech Press” sources, MLID reports that the proper launch of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 isn’t expected to happen before December. An AMD source alleged that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is “coming soon,” but retail availability isn’t expected until Q1 2026. This source also confirmed that the general specs leaked earlier should be “close to the final spec”. However, AMD could make some changes to the reported clock speeds.

Moreover, a “US Retailer” source allegedly told MLID that they have heard nothing about the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 or the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. This further points to a 2026 launch, as, if AMD were planning to release the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 this year, retailers would’ve been notified in advance to prepare for the chip.

A Q1 2026 launch for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and the Ryzen 7 9850X3D also seems likely when we consider that Intel is reportedly releasing the Arrow Lake Refresh desktop CPUs early next year. AMD could time the launch of new X3D CPUs to take attention away from Intel’s new desktop CPUs.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 could extend AMD’s gaming lead even further

AMD currently has the fastest gaming CPU on the market in the Ryzen 7 9800X3D (Available on Amazon). Per our testing, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is over 30% faster than the Core Ultra 9 285K in games. The introduction of a dual-3D V-Cache Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and a higher-clocked Ryzen 7 9850X3D could give AMD an even bigger lead in gaming.

Sadly, it is unlikely that the upcoming Arrow Lake Refresh CPUs will close this gap. So, we won’t get to see real competition in the desktop space until Intel Nova Lake.
