Alongside the Retroid Pocket 6, Retroid also announced a second handheld called the Pocket G2. The new handheld can be described as an updated Retroid Pocket 5, as both devices share several features, including design.
It might as well have been called the Pocket 5s, Pocket 5 Plus, or Pocket 5 Pro, considering there isn't a Retroid Pocket G1. Nevertheless, the similarity between the two handhelds doesn't take points away from the new model.
The Retroid Pocket G2 is available in five colors — Yellow and Turquoise, which are reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch Lite (curr. available on Amazon for $199); while the remaining three colors — 16Bit, Black, and GC — have been borrowed from the Retroid Pocket 5. Considering it has the same shell as the Retroid Pocket 5, it means it is compatible with the accessories of the Retroid Pocket 5.
Retroid Pocket G2 Specifciations
While there are no visual differences on the outside, the internals are where the changes are. The Retroid Pocket G2 has a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. However, it replaces the Snapdragon 865 of the Retroid Pocket 5 with the newer Snapdragon G2 Gen 2. The processor is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The Android handheld ships with Android 15, has a 5,000mAh battery, and supports 27W wired charging. It features a USB-C port with DisplayPort support for a 1080p output. It also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. Like the Pocket 5, there are Analog L2 and R2 buttons and Hall Effect joysticks with RGB lights.
Retroid Pocket G2 Price and Availability
The Retroid Pocket G2 has a price tag of $219, but for the first two weeks, buyers will be able to purchase the handheld for $199, matching the current price of the Retroid 5 following the permanent price cut. Retroid hasn't revealed when the handheld will be available for purchase.
