The GPD Win 5 is expected to ship to Indiegogo backers starting from November 2025. Just ahead of the Strix Halo gaming handheld reaching the hands of users, ETA Prime has put up a video showcasing what the cheaper version brings to the table.
More specifically, the YouTuber has tested the Ryzen AI Max 385 version of the gaming handheld, which is more affordable than the AI Max+ 395 configuration. In comparison, the former is a slightly less capable APU, featuring the Radeon 8050S iGPU with 32 CU.
Although the configuration tested isn't the top-end offering from GPD, the gaming handheld performed relatively well in the gaming tests. ETA first ran Street Fighter 6 at 1080p resolution, with the visual settings set to Medium, and TDP at 18 W. The Ryzen AI Max 385 Win 5 could offer a steady 60 FPS during the session.
Next, the YouTuber ran Spider-Man 2 on the gaming handheld at 1080p Medium, but with the TDP at 28 W. This game is known not to run well on iGPUs, but the affordable configuration of the Win 5 could run it with an average of 74 FPS. ETA notes that with frame gen, the handheld can run the game with around 130 FPS.
Forza Horizon 5 was next in line, and the YouTuber tested the game at 17 W TDP and 1080p resolution. With Medium visual settings, the gaming handheld could run the game with over 100 FPS. Cyberpunk 2077 was tested at 1080p, High visual settings, and FSR set to quality. At 45 W TDP, the average was around 91 FPS, and at 25 W TDP, the frames were hovering at around 60 FPS.
Among the other games that ETA Prime benchmarked on GPD Win 5 is Red Dead Redemption 2 (curr. $14.99 on Humble Bundle) with no FSR and the resolution set to 1080p. At 45 W TDP, the gaming handheld could run the game at around 75 FPS. ETA Prime has also tested DOOM: The Dark Ages and Borderlands 4, and the device could offer a good overall experience.
