One-Netbook has now officially launched the OneXFly Apex after teasing liquid cooling support for the same gaming handheld yesterday. Another AMD Strix Halo-powered gaming handheld, the OneXFly Apex shares more similarities with the existing GPD Win 5 than just a shared architecture.
For instance, the OneXFly Apex mirrors the GPD Win 5 by adopting an external battery solution. Delivering an 85 Wh peak capacity, the battery can be ditched entirely by connecting a power cable when near an outlet, just like the GPD Win 5. One-Netbook has now clarified that its external liquid cooling solution is optional, too. If 120 W of cooling power is not needed, then one can switch to the Apex's internal cooling system, which can sustain the Ryzen AI Max 395+ running at 80 W via two turbo fans and four heatpipes.
Apparently, increasing the Apex's thermal design power (TDP) by 50% from 80 W to 120 W only yields an 18% performance increase in 3DMark Time Spy, though. In fact, the OneXFly Apex still manages 4,083 points in the same benchmark when running at 25 W, compared with the 3,816 points we achieved when reviewing the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370-powered OneXPlayer X1 Pro earlier this year (curr. $1,599 on Amazon).
Allegedly, the OneXFly Apex easily surpasses Ryzen Z2 Extreme-powered handhelds with over 125% higher framerates when gaming in 1080p at high graphics settings. This performance uplift comes at a significantly higher price point, though. According to One-Netbook, the OneXFly Apex will start at CNY 8,599 (~$1,211) in China with 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage and the lesser Ryzen AI Max 385 APU.
Meanwhile, Ryzen AI Max+ 395 SKUs will range between CNY 9,999 (~$1,408) and CNY 15,999 (~$2,254) with up to 128 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. On top of that, the handheld's proprietary 85 Wh external battery and liquid cooling solution will retail for CNY 399 (~$56) and CNY 999 (~$141), respectively. One-Netbook has committed to releasing the OneXFly Apex globally via Indiegogo at first. Unfortunately, more details about the device's international launch remain unknown for now.
