Retroid is not waiting around to release the Pocket 6 after presenting it yesterday. For context, the company took about two weeks to bring the Pocket 5 to market (curr. $259 on Amazon). While the company presented the Pocket 5 alongside the Pocket Mini in late August, it then continually teased both until releasing them on September 10.
This time around, Retroid has already opened pre-orders for the Pocket 6. The same is also the case with the Pocket G2, which undercuts the Pocket 6 by a mere $10. Nonetheless, the Pocket 6 contains a few notable upgrades over not just the Pocket G2 but also the older Pocket 5. For instance, Retroid has included a 120 Hz AMOLED display inside the Pocket 6 rather than the 60 Hz equivalents found inside the Pocket G2 and Pocket 5.
Ultimately, many retro games will not run at 120 Hz. However, many can still benefit from a 120 Hz panel by using Black Frame Insertion (BFI) to help reduce motion blur and improve the effect of CRT shaders. Moreover, the Pocket 6 features a 6,000 mAh battery, 1,000 mAh larger than the batteries inside the Pocket G2 and Pocket 5, as well as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that AYN Technologies uses across its Odin 2 generation gaming handhelds like the Odin 2 and Odin 2 Portal.
All this hardware sits within a 210 x 87 x 17 mm housing that weighs around 320 g, thanks to its 5.5-inch display, active cooling solution and 6,000 mAh battery. The Pocket 6 can be picked up from today, starting at $209 during the handheld's Early Bird period. If 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of expandable storage is not enough for your emulation needs, then Retroid also stocks a 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage model for $259. Please note that Retroid will not begin shipping any Pocket 6 pre-orders until January 2026 at the earliest.
