Anbernic started teasing the RG DS almost three weeks ago. Its first dual screen device, the RG DS follows on from a spate of more unusual Anbernic gaming handhelds like the RG Slide (curr. $194.99 on Amazon), among others. Unusually, Anbernic has said precious little about the RG DS since its debut, despite publishing several device pictures and videos in the intervening period.
Now though, a rogue AliExpress listing appears to have answered many of the remaining questions about the RG DS ahead of time. In short, the RG DS appears to be much weaker than Anbernic's videos suggested. Specifically, the listing indicates that Anbernic has equipped the RG DS with a Rockchip RK3568 chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and a 4,000 mAh battery. Moreover, the handheld is said to feature 640 x 480-pixel displays, possibly those from the RG40XX H.
On top of that, the listing reports that the RG DS runs Android 14 with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, but for a $108.99 starting price that will eventually reach $114.99. Early launch offers could drop the RG DS below $100 though, as previously indicated.
As Joey's Retro Handhelds suggests, the RG DS only appears to be powerful enough to emulate Nintendo DS games via Drastic with only limited Nintendo 3DS emulation. Regardless, it is unclear at this stage whether the mid-December release date shown on AliExpress represents when Anbernic plans to begin selling its new gaming handheld itself.
