Anbernic appears to have inadvertently confirmed yesterday's leak regarding its upcoming gaming handheld. For some reason, Anbernic is still leaving fans in the dark about the hardware inside the RG DS. However, the company has been spotted leaving a hint on its website that the likes of Joey's Retro Handhelds have now unearthed.
Embedded below, the image reveals all Anbernic RG DS specifications ahead of time. As yesterday's leak indicated, Anbernic's next release utilises the Rockchip RK3568 rather than more powerful MediaTek or Unisoc alternatives the company has used in its other recent Android gaming handhelds. Found in single-board computers (SBCs) like the Asus Tinker Board 3N, the Rockchip RK3568 contains four ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2 GHz and a Mali-G52 2EE GPU.
Anbernic complements this modest SoC with 3 GB of RAM, likely LPDDR4 or LPDDR4X, 32 GB of expandable storage and a 4,000 mAh battery rated for up to 6 hours of gameplay between charges. Additionally, the gaming handheld supports Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 5 connectivity with Android 14 pre-installed.
The Anbernic RG DS also adopts a pair of 4-inch and 480p IPS displays, likely those from the RG40XX H (curr. $72.99 on Amazon). Previously, Anbernic has teased that the RG DS will be available on its website for under $100 at launch. Although a launch date remains unconfirmed for now, the fact that Anbernic has uploaded RG DS content to its website indicates that a full global release should be happening soon.
