GPD has now brought its Win 5 crowdfunding campaign to an end after leaving it open for more than a month. Funded in under five minutes, the campaign is the earliest opportunity globally for one to obtain the first AMD Strix Halo-powered gaming handheld in either Ryzen AI Max 385 or Ryzen AI Max+ 395 variants.
As we have discussed previously, the Win 5 is significantly more powerful than the Win 4 (curr. $1,458 on Amazon) with which it shares various styling cues even in the latter's most recent Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 configuration. According to our benchmarks, the Radeon 8050S and Radeon 8060S inside the Ryzen AI Max 385 or Ryzen AI Max+ 395 deliver between 2x and 3x performance uplifts in gaming benchmarks.
These performance advantages correlate with a huge price differential between the Win 4 and Win 5, though. Specifically, the Win 5 starts is almost $25 more expensive than the Win 4 when configured with a Ryzen AI Max 385. Meanwhile, Ryzen AI Max+ 395 SKUs start at over 40% more than the Win 4 configured with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU. Nonetheless, GPD claims to have surpassed its campaign goal by more than 400x in raising over $1 million in Win 5 orders, which should begin shipping in November. Unfortunately, GPD has not shared subsequent release plans yet.
