Anbernic RG40XX H: New retro gaming handheld released as cheaper RG Cube alternative
Anbernic has now started selling the RG40XX H globally following the release of several teasers. As expected, the RG40XX H shares more with recent RG35XX models than the RG Cube (curr. $249.99 on Amazon), despite visual similarities suggesting otherwise. Specifically, Anbernic has equipped the RG40XX H with the Allwinner H700 and 1 GB LPDDR4 RAM, the combination of which should be powerful enough to emulate up to PlayStation Portable games.
Additionally, the RG40XX H finds itself with a 4-inch display, which sits within a housing that measures 163 x 79 x 16 mm and weighs 208 g. For reference, the mid-sized display relies upon an IPS panel that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels and is fully OCA laminated. Moreover, the gaming handheld supports Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity for use with peripherals like wireless game controllers, as well as 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) Wi-FI networks.
Furthermore, Anbernic includes a 3,200 mAh battery rated for up to 6 hours of gameplay and two MicroSD card slots. By default, the RG40XX H comes with a 64 GB MicroSD for $69.99, upon which Anbernic pre-installs its standard Linux fork. However, the device is available with secondary MicroSD cards in 128 GB or 256 GB configurations for $84.99 and $99.99, respectively. Currently, Anbernic sells the RG40XX H in black, blue and grey colours, evidence of which we have embedded above. Please see the independent review videos below for more details on the RG40XX H and how it stacks up against other recent retro gaming handhelds.
