The long-awaited fourth installment in the BioShock series has been in development for years. First impressions of the game are still a long time coming. However, a screenshot has now emerged that allows us to make some assumptions.

BioShock 4 was first mentioned in an article by Jason Schreier on Kotaku. Around five years later, fans are finally getting a first look at the game. Apart from the fact that the game is to be developed by Cloud Chamber and published by 2K Games, nothing is known about the BioShock Infinite sequel, which was initially developed under the project name Parkside. Based on the screenshot posted on July 13 on Imgur, at least a few assumptions can be made.

Bumpy development

The development process of the game seems to have been anything but smooth so far. As Gamestar (in German) reported back in June 2023, the game's development has already been restarted four times. The project name is also said to have been changed to "Isolation" at times. The reasons are said to include multiple script rewrites, the team's lack of experience with large-scale projects and a high staff turnover.

What does the screenshot reveal?

According to a Reddit post, the screenshot was taken by a visual effects artist from 2K Interactive and is supposed to show an earlier build of the game - presumably before 2021. The project name at the bottom left, where you can still read "Parkside", gives a clue. The screenshot shows the player with a shotgun in front of a glowing, tower-like structure. The interface is more revealing.

The three squares at the bottom left could indicate that there could be a limit of three weapons in BioShock 4. The electric symbol suggests a kind of lightning bolt, the magnet symbol could be telekinesis. The clock symbol, in conjunction with the hourglass at the top left, could indicate time-based abilities.
