MagicX XU Mini M released as new pocket-sized retro gaming handheld with hall effect joysticks and Anbernic RG28XX rival
MagicX has quietly started selling the XU Mini M, which it appears to have been developing alongside the larger XU HD. Revealed in the spring, the XU Mini M is a rival of sorts to the Anbernic RG28XX and Miyoo Mini A30 (curr. $49.99 on Amazon) thanks to its comparable 2.8-inch display. As expected, this display relies upon an IPS panel that not only outputs at 640 x 480 pixels but is also fully OCA laminated.
Additionally, the XU Mini M utilises a Rockchip RK3562 chipset with four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and a Mali-G52 GPU. Considering that MagicX pairs the 22 nm chipset with 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, we suspect the XU Mini M will perform about as well as the RG28XX when emulating PlayStation Portable (PSP) games or console games released in the late 90s from systems like the Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation 1.
Moreover, the XU Mini M features a 2,600 mAh battery that MagicX rates for up to 6 hours of usage, as well as hall effect joysticks, a pair of MicroSD card readers and two downward-firing speakers, all within a 129 x 64 x 29 mm housing. Currently, the gaming handheld is orderable through AliExpress for $49.93 with a 64 GB MicroSD card in black translucent, grey and orange finishes. Alternatively, the same device can be picked up for $55.78 with a 128 GB MicroSD card.
