Garmin releases new Fenix 7 smartwatch update to fix system crashes
Garmin has now started distributing the second update in its 18.xx beta cycle. To recap, the company kicked off v18 beta development with Beta Version 18.09. Building on Software Version 17.28, Beta Version 18.09's changelog stretched into double figures thanks to a slew of bug fixes and a few new features.
This time, the company has finalised Beta Version 18.10, which is available to download now across Enduro 2 (curr. $699.95 refurbished on Amazon), Epix 2, Fenix 7, Quatix 7 and MARQ Gen 2 smartwatches. Please note that Garmin will not automatically update devices from Beta Version 18.09 to Beta Version 18.10. Instead, one must manually initiate the latter's download by heading to Menu, System, Software Updates and then tapping 'Check for Updates'.
However, Garmin acknowledges that this process may fail to start the update process. Thankfully, it has provided download files for each eligible smartwatch to sideload the new update, which can be found on its forum post. For reference, Beta Version 18.10 is said to address two outstanding bugs, both of which could potentially cause system shutdowns on Beta Version 18.09. The two bug fixes bundled within Beta Version 18.10 are as follows:
- Fixed potential shutdown when modifying Daily Suggested Workouts settings
- Fixed potential shutdown when changing outdoor Maps+ map layers
