Garmin releases new update for Fenix 7 series with a dozen fixes, improvements and new features
In recent weeks, the focus of Garmin's Fenix series has shifted to the possibility of the company releasing new models. To recap, two high-profile leaks about Fenix 7 successors have appeared online, both through early retail listings. Unexpectedly, it seems that Garmin intends to replace the Fenix 7 with the Fenix E and Fenix 8, which it will distinguish with Memory In Pixel (MIP) and AMOLED displays, respectively.
While Garmin has not officially commented on the Fenix E or Fenix 8 yet, it continues to slowly improve the state of the Fenix 7 series. For context, the company recently released Software Version 17.28, a stable update that resolved an outstanding Daily Suggested Workouts issue, among other minor improvements. Now, it has flighted Beta Version 18.09, which is only accessible if you manually check for new updates on your smartwatch.
As always, any new update for Fenix 7 smartwatches is also available across the Enduro 2 (curr. $699.96 - refurbished on Amazon), Epix 2, Quatix 7 and MARQ Gen 2. Please note that Garmin has identified a potential Wi-Fi issue in the new update, the workaround for which we have included below:
We have a potential fix for a Wi-Fi issue when requesting software. If you hit this issue when trying to 'check for updates' for 18.09, we have provided a side load option below for each watch model. When the zip folder downloads to your computer, copy the gupdate.gsp file from the 18.09 folder in this zip, and place this in the Primary\Garmin folder of your watch.
According to Garmin, Beta Version 18.09 contains a dozen changes from v17.28, which was also distributed as a beta update shortly before reaching stable status. Additionally, the former bundles new GPS, Sensor Hub and Wireless firmware versions, which have reached v10.01, v31.09 and v28.17, respectively. In summary, Beta Version 18.09 primarily focuses on fixing bugs, including one that could potentially cause screen distortion on a watch face. However, it has also added the Garmin Share app and a dark mode to its maps app. Please see the changelog below and Garmin's forum post for more details.
