The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is still more than half a year away, but tests of the early prototypes are slowly starting in Xiaomi's laboratories, as well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station recently confirmed on Weibo. In a recent post, he confirms recent speculation that Xiaomi is brewing up something new in terms of the Leica camera for the top model of the Xiaomi 15 series. This follows a recent announcement that the Pro model will reportedly feature a periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom as opposed to previous suggestions of 3x zoom.
All this information is of course far from officially confirmed and should thus be treated with caution, but in most cases one can certainly trust statements made by Digital Chat Station. The leaker has now apparently received information on an early Xiaomi 15 Ultra test device (see screenshot below) and emphasizes that the manufacturer will probably improve the dual telephoto in particular. In fact, this is likely to be quite a big leap in development, as there is talk of a "super improvement".
Of course, we can only speculate as to what this could be at present. One possible approach compared to current competitors such as the Vivo X100 Ultra would be to increase the megapixels, which also seems to be under discussion for the Honor Magic 7 Pro. Larger sensors for both telephoto cameras (currently 75mm and 120mm) would also certainly make sense, especially since nothing has changed in this respect on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra compared to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The first traces of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra have also recently been discovered in the IMEI database, even for a global model.
